I had the pleasure of dining at On the Border in Corpus Christi, and I was very impressed with the food and service. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, which was excellent. The soup was rich and flavorful, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend got the tacos and cheese quesadilla, and he really liked both. The tacos were filled with fresh ingredients, and the quesadilla was crispy and cheesy.
We also tried the Liberita Margarita, which was delicious. The margarita was made with layers of strawberry puree, lime 'rita, and blue curacao, and it was the perfect combination of sweet and tart.
The service at On the Border was also excellent. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, and she made sure that we had everything we needed. We will definitely be back to On the Border soon!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

We just arrived in Corpus for a military move and the house wasn't ready. Traveling with a dog and cat makes it difficult to eat out. We were able to sit on the patio here with a cat crate and pup in tow. The staff were SO nice here and it was much appreciated. Green sauce is yummy here, tortilla chips were kind of meh....like broken up taco shells.

We had visitors from out of town who chose to come here, even though on past visits we had not been impressed with the food or service. The menu is pretty standard Mexican mainstream: fajitas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, nachos and salads. Our party of 7 had to wait almost 15 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was almost empty on this Sunday afternoon. We were finally seated and given menus.
It took a long time to give our drink orders, a long time to give our food orders and even longer to receive our food. The complimentary chips and salsa were fine but we were all hungry and ate too many chips before our meal.
When the food came it was meh. Bland and uninspired. Cheese enchiladas tasted old and dry, the chili sauce very dark and tasteless. Refried beans needed salt. Mexican rice was very good but had corn in it? Fajitas and quesadillas were ok but dry. Tortillas were fine. Our waitress was terrific and attentive without being annoying but even her stellar service wasn't enough to raise the food out of the "yawn" category.
Total for a family fajita plate, enchiladas, quesadillas and seven soft drinks was $87.90 before tip.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 23, 2017Previous reviewTried this location even though parking lot was packed and there was a 20-minute wait; the patio is closed while the restaurant is undergoing renovations not related to the hurricane. We were seated in a booth and given menus by our waiter who was being trained.
Menu is extensive but half is for choices from the bar. Food choices in our opinion were limited to a few tacos, enchiladas, chili relleno and appetizers. Fajitas and nachos are offered as meals too. We ordered guacamole made tableside, queso with meat and a combo plate, taco salad, fajita salad and chili relleno plate.
Complimentary chips and salsa are ok, chips are large and were unevenly salted. When the waitperson came to our table and made the guacamole it was good, fresh and chunky but could've used salt and pepper. The queso was runny and had a huge chunk of jalapeños in it...?
Our entrees were ok. Taco salad had a nice presentation with a bed of lettuce, beans, ground beef, etc but instead of a fried tortilla bowl chips were laid on the side of the plate. Same with the fajita salad. The chili rellenos were rolled like tamales and deep fried. Enchiladas were so-so. Black beans were way too fiery even for our seasoned palates. We ordered sopapillas for dessert and they were stale and cold, a waste of money.
Service was ok but not really efficient. The worst thing about our experience was THE NOISE! It's so loud in here that you literally have to scream across the table. It's one of the reasons we will not be coming back.
Total for two margaritas, one rum drink, one soda, two appetizers, four entrees and one dessert was $124.56 before tip. - Jeff K.Corpus Christi, TX03Apr 3, 2024
Absolute 5 star rating and well deserved! Came for dinner and were immediately seated by a cordial, smiling, easy going thoroughly professional young lady w/a cool tshirt saying 'Nacho Momma' (NM). She escorted us to our both, served our menus and took our order for drinks; and most importantly asked if we also water. she returned w/in 5 minutes and took our order for entrees. The manager appeared, we had a short pleasant conversation. 15 minutes later she and NM returned w/our food.
Both of these ladies epitomize the term 'consummate professionals'. They represent the OTB restaurant brand in setting the standard for how ALL restaurants should conduct business. Their superiors should take note that wonderful people like them are hard to find lately; they deserve a raise, or impact award for their conduct. The totality of their wonderful, considerate attention to us personified our 'dining experience'. Strongly endorse OTB restaurant; and they give a military discount. Bring your Families guys this is the place to bring them. If you are lucky you get to meet Nacho Momma!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Middle of the road Tex-Mex chain. Great guacamole!

So disappointed. We are regulars here so we found a couple of people we like to sit with. When covid happened we found a couple of backups in case those weren't there. When we came in tonight we saw two of those working and were told by the hostess that we can't sit with them. She didn't ask us if we wanted to wait, she didn't ask the server (which sometimes lets us sit and just get a drink while we wait for them to catch up and get to us), she didn't even apologize when she said "I just sat them", she just stared at us and didn't say anything, so we ended up leaving and went elsewhere.
Also, we called prior to arriving and asked for a manager (because they pretty much have to know you before telling you if someone's working, which I understand). The person answering responded with "sure" (that's it, just sure), then they transferred the call and it rang twice and someone picked up the phone but never said anything. I could hear people talking, dishes or glasses being moved around like someone clearing a table, and even a register but NO ONE ever spoke or answered.Helpful 7Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0Apr 27, 2021Previous reviewOur regular guys weren't working tonight so we sat with our girl Carol and she did not disappoint. We've only sat with her a couple of times but she already knew our favorites that we would automatically order. Love that. My only complaint would be the onion strings on my brisket tacos were no where near what they should have been. They were mostly cut into what I could best describe as raw flat onion rings. I ended up taking 80% of them off. Barrell aged margarita is yummy. It's been my go to the last 4x I've been here. You really should try it.
Jul 30, 2013Previous reviewMy husbands favorite place to eat. :-)
I love the brisket tacos and we always get the guacamole live. My son loves the fajitas because he can mix and match the meat, sauce and even veggies to his mood for the day. I'm not a big fan of the queso. It seems to firm up very quickly and we usually have to ask them to warm it up again to melt it down and then we still add salsa to it to help liquify it a bit. - 1155571706Jun 10, 2021
Where do I start? Well the 2 stars is probably generous; however, one of us liked our meal (kinda).
Maybe 6 to 8 tables in the restaurant were occupied. It took 5 mins before anyone came to the hostess spot. The drinks were another 10 mins. We barely saw the waitress and she had only 3 tables.
The food was bland ... fajitas, rice, beans ... all bland. The beef fajitas were chewy. Even the shrimp looked boiled rather than grilled. I asked for limes with my beer .. she brought lemons(face plant!!).
Saving grace ... the flaunts and salsa were good!Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0
