About the Business
Littlebird is a full-service restaurant + bar in downtown Grand Rapids. We serve dinner & brunch. Our brunch is first-come, first-serve, and we *do* offer reservations for dinner. At every hour, we are committed to deliciousness and having fun doing what we love. It's a place where meeting neighbors at the local café meets downtown hubbub, where folks from near and far feel comfortable and safe, whether stopping in during a bike ride, pre-gaming the opera, or anything in between.

Brunch service and food was solid. Cute spot in the middle of downtown by the JW Marriott and Amway Grand, Devos and Van Andel. only suggestion with the Sweet potato hash would have been slightly more cooked Brussels sprouts and broccoli. flavors were a tasty mix of deliciousnes, including the Kim chi.

We absolutely loved our experience at Littlebird. The outdoor seating was wonderful. The cocktails were well made with good flavors. We also had the chicken wings, a burger, and the umami noodles. The wings were perfectly fried and crispy, the noodles were well seasoned, properly cooked, and refreshingly unique (miso lemon butter sauce). The smashburger was excellent, and the fries were some of the best fries we've ever had. We sprung for dessert as well and the ice cream was good, but the Russian honey cake was absolutely incredible. I would go back just for that cake.

I'm still sad that Littlebird got rid of the BEST kale Caesar salad in town, but they are forgiven because everything else is so delicious. I'd heard great things about their burger, so we stopped in before a show recently to try it. I'd mostly been to Littlebird for brunch on previous visits.
Everyone was right, the burger is incredible. The patties were perfectly seasoned and cooked well, and I liked that the pickles were really thin and not overpowering. The milk bread bun was soft but buttery and toasted, and held up well to the patties. The fries that came with it were amazingly crispy on the outside and really soft and pillowy inside. I think they could've used a tiny bit more salt, but overall this burger and fries combo is by far my current favorite in all of Grand Rapids.
We also got a small plate to share, the roasted peppers. This was not a visually stunning dish but it was packed with flavor and we loved it. The baba ganoush was super savory and delicious, and the smoked tomato-soy maple gave it just the right amount of sweetness. I didn't expect to love this dish as much as I did.
There are only a few issues with Littlebird, one being that their menu changes seasonally which means if you find a dish you love (ahem, like a kale Caesar salad) it may not be there forever. The other issue is that the space itself is very cozy, or small. They do take reservations, so if you are able to plan ahead, I'd highly recommend that route. I've been able to walk in and sit at the bar most times I've visited, but I often come at off peak times. The food at Littlebird is unique and delicious without being overly pretentious.Helpful 10Thanks 2Love this 14Oh no 0May 27, 2022Previous reviewI recently experienced Littlebird's lunch (technically brunch) recently and wanted to update my review. The place was pretty busy around noon on a Friday as there was a conference happening that weekend, but I was able to snag a great two top table right by the window. I ordered the spicy fried chicken sandwich with fries and a half kale sesame Caesar salad. My friend got the French omelet with mushrooms and leeks. It comes with a small side salad and a choice of potatoes or toast.
Our food took a little bit to come out but we were enjoying chatting and catching up. The fries were perfect and the spiciness and flavor of the chicken sandwich was great. It wasn't as crispy as I had thought it would be, but the flavor was so good I didn't mind.
The star of the meal for me was definitely the kale sesame Caesar salad! I've had many versions of a kale Caesar salad as it's become pretty popular, and this was by far the best one I've ever had. The sesame flavor was so interesting and unique. I also loved the addition of the mint - it gave it a pop of freshness that I think is often lacking in this type of salad. It was perfectly dressed and my friend and I both commented on how delicious it was. I'd order this again and again - I hope they never take it off the menu!
Our server was really sweet and great with recommendations. I really like this cozy spot right in the heart of downtown. I don't get to this part of town as much these days, but Littlebird is worth a trip.Apr 18, 2018Previous reviewThis is my new favorite breakfast spot. I am a huge breakfast lover and have been to just about every breakfast place in the area, not even kidding. I stopped in to Littlebird one morning and sat at the bar. I ordered the omelette, French style, with a side of bacon. It comes with fresh fruit, some greens, toast, and homemade jam. The French style omelette is amazing; it's slightly undercooked so it's creamy inside with a great texture. It's not for everyone, but if you like runny yolks, you'll probably appreciate this type of preparation. I've never really liked omelettes - now I know I just like French omelettes. American omelettes are browned on the outside and cooked through and I always find them to be dry.
The toast was really good and slathered in butter - I'm not a huge bread eater but I ate all this toast. The bacon was average, which was a tiny disappointment as I was hoping it would be thick-cut. However, it's still bacon! I also got a cup of roasted almond tea which was a really nice surprise - it smelled just like the roasted almonds that you find at craft shows and fairs and was a really pretty pink color. The people working behind the bar were friendly and chatted with me a bit. I will definitely be back again soon for another omelette!Jan 23, 2018Previous reviewMy boyfriend and I finally got a chance to stop in to Littlebird for a brunch snack on Saturday midmorning. Located right on Monroe Center by Vault of Midnight means parking can be tricky so be prepared to parallel park on Monroe Center or find parking a couple streets over. We arrived around 10:45 am and all the tables were full, but we were offered a seat at the bar, which was pretty empty.
The menu isn't huge but there are some nice options, some with an Asian-inspired twist. They also just got their liquor license which was a nice surprise. We decided to split the namesake breakfast sandwich, with fried egg, American cheese, smoked ham, garlic mayonnaise on a Field and Fire bun. I also ordered a traditional mimosa and my boyfriend got a beermosa, both of which were great and made with freshly squeezed orange juice.
The sandwich came out quickly and looked great and tasted even better. The bun is soft but held up well to the runny egg without falling apart. The sandwich itself is pretty basic, but made with high-quality ingredients. We saw a couple other dishes that looked great, including a full English breakfast and some tasty looking dishes in big bowls. Service was friendly and quick, and the interior of the place makes you feel like you've been transported to a French cafe.
Overall, I liked my experience at The Littlebird more than my visits to their sister restaurant (That Early Bird). - Feb 16, 2024
This farm to table good preparation was on point. Loved the salad. So unique and filled with umami flavour. Burger was basic but filling and the Boursin cream on the omelette was delicious. The potatoes were super crispy. Our server was fantastic and so sweet. Food came quickly on a busy Sunday morning.

I haven't stopped thinking about the brunch I had at Littlebird since visiting. I tried the overnight oats and a sweet potato hash where I substituted the egg for tofu to make it vegan. The whole meal was to die for but the overnight oats were the star of the show. If I'm ever in the area again I'll certainly be back.
The restaurant itself was nice and has a diner-like charm about it. Plus they have an outdoor seating area which is great. I came solo so I sat at the bar top and was waited on by the bartender who was very nice and attentive. I never went without coffee or water refills and she even offered to give me a to go cup to bring my coffee with me. My only complaint is they only have one bathroom but that on its own is not enough to take any stars away.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - May 24, 2023
Able to snag outside seats and enjoy top tier brunch
Omelette French Omelet topped with Boursin & Herbs - 4/5. Average omelette but creamy and delicious cream topping. Fine salad and crispy potatoes.
Bread Pudding French Toast - 5/5. Rich mascarpone, punchy citrus cubes, berry sauce. Complement the core tasty French toast very well.
They make their own juices as well!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 24, 2023Updated review
Every time I come here I leave feeling full and happy! Each plate is interesting and complex. I got a broccoli salad with a peanut sauce and pickled apples that where put of this world.
The service is great, I always feel like they are attentive and eager to answer any questions I might have!
This is one of my favorite places in Grand Rapids!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Jun 26, 2022Previous reviewI stumbled upon this place when walking around downtown Grand Rapids. It is perfection. The menu changed but the ricotta option is ALWAYS amazing. I love their playful need with flavors and colors. I got a salmon with roasted strawberries that I will never forget. If you've got something to celebrate - anything at all - make your way here. Wonderful staff, beautiful food, great drinks!

We loved this cute little restaurant. Service was fast and friendly. I had the sweet potato hash and it was unique and tasty. They even offered us coffee to go for our flight home.

Came here with my fiance for breakfast around 10 am on a Sunday. It was indeed busy, but we got seated at the bar right away. The bartender had lots of energy, and he walked us through some items on the menu. The decor was simple but enough because the food showed for itself. Ambiance was quiet but nice. We ordered grapefruit juice that was bitter and tarte, not pictured. I ordered the two eggs over easy, potatoes, and toast. The toast is made in-house along with the fruit jam. Potatoes were crispy and delicious. It was a simple breakfast but hit the spot. My fiance ordered the boursin omelet and a side of pork belly. He says that this is the best omelet he has ever had! The bartender gave us great service and if we are in the area again we would come back.

Update 3/2023 the food and staff are amazing. This said, watch out for up-charges. We upcharged the fries on our chicken sandwich order to chili fries. It was $6 to add a few tablespoons of chili!!! Basically, it was the price of a half-order of chili fries. But we already paid for the fries when we ordered our sandwich. Prices are already a bit steep, and this much of an up-charge felt a little price gaugey. Side note: the chicken sandwich really was amazing.
