Is there a time limit for the unlimited drinks for brunch? For instance, is it the typical 1.5 or 2-hour deal, or does it end when entrees have been finished?

Nice ambiance.
Decent hummus. The presentation was good but the meat on non vegetarian hummus could have been grilled.
Service is prompt.

I can't believe it took so long for me to come back here but I got married in my defense since my last time.
It's definitively become my favorite hummus place. Some new items I tried:
- French toast: the breading itself is challah and pretty soggy and not your standard toast. They also have halva shavings on top which I like. I tried a few bites from a friend's but not necessarily something I'd get again.
- Shwarma platter: this is almost like a taco and while the meat was so much fewer than I expected for the price, it was very tender and tasty. Very delicious but I wish it was a bigger portion. We opted for couscous instead of rice, and this was flavorful.
- Shakshuka Senya: this is with ground beef and my friends liked this the most compared to the original and the Spinach version. I did like it as well but I can't remember the original enough to determine between the two. It comes with the a fluffy and warm frena bread that's a highlight.
- Mazze: Quinoa was a little boring and the cauliflower already comes with one of the brunch sides.
This time around, I got a free dessert instead of the free hummus by leaving a review and I tried the kitchen kadif because I like halva. It came with ice cream as well which was interesting with the crispy kadif. I'd get this again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 17, 2022Previous reviewSecond time here, and the 3 of us shared a brunch entree with shakshuka ($17) and mazze trio ($23), which comes with a pita bread as well - we picked falafel, babaganoush, and Mediterranean salad. We also got the free hummus again.
The shakshuka was so much better this time around as the eggs were actually runny (vs. the green shakshuka where the eggs were overcooked - maybe it takes too much time to cook the spinach?).
The falafels were amazing - so green on the inside, very flavorful, perhaps the best ones I've eaten, and the babaganoush was appropriately smoky as well, although I do wish it was a little chunkier. The Mediterranean salad comes with a lemon slice, and becomes a nice palette cleanser.
We could not finish the meal and all this for $40 - made sure to tip generously. I can easily see this place being a regular place I go to.May 25, 2022Previous reviewMenu is a bit confusing. We got the green shakshuka entree off the brunch menu ($17 + $1), and any entree with this menu comes with a sampling of appetizers on that side along with coffee or tea (mint or hibiscus).
We also checked in to get free hummus which comes with choice of regular or whole wheat pita. The regular is better than the whole wheat, and comes warm. The hummus is good and I splattered more olive oil on it with the bread.
We were already getting full from just the brunch appetizers and the free hummus.
The shakshuka was a nice complement to the meal because of the acidity but I didn't think it was anything special. The eggs are overcooked, but perhaps that's a feature of shakshuka?
We also had the charred eggplant ($12) which was great - think babaganoush before it's all mushed up. Very heavy on the smoked/charred flavoring and the Tahiti and pomegranate seeds really added to the flavor profile. A review said that it seemed random but I thought it all blended well together. We also got another pita bread but can't remember if it was for the shakshuka or eggplant dish.
At these prices, I'd go again in a heartbeat. - Apr 3, 2024Updated review
Taking two stars away from my previous review of Hummus Kitchen for three reasons.
First, since writing that review I've tried more items on their menu, and have been disappointed. I was very excited to try the fava bean hummus- thinking that the beans would be blended into the hummus itself to give it a different flavor. Upon ordering it though, I realized that it was the same hummus as all of their dishes, just with cold canned fava beans in a pile on top, and a rubbery hard boiled egg. Their Mediterranean chopped salad had far too many onions in it for my liking too. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have given this restaurant a five star review, considering that I already knew their falafel was too dry and the chicken shawarma hummus weirdly pungent. I still really like their dolmades with pomegranate seeds and mint sauce, as well as their babaganoush. However the point of a good restaurant isn't to get the same thing always, but to try new things and be surprised by how good they are. That sadly doesn't seem to be the case here, at least for me.
Second, after trying more hummus from other mediterranean restaurants, I've discovered that I don't especially like the hummus here. To me this is basically a deal breaker, since the place is literally called the hummus kitchen. Personally, I prefer a smoother and more creamy hummus than the thicker, chunky hummus served here. I believe that HK specializes in Israeli hummus and cuisine (judging by the flags out front), so if the hummus texture and flavor here is up to Israeli standards it's not a problem with HK, just my own personal preference. The smooth creamy tahini-rich hummus that I like seems to be more common in Turkish restaurants.
Third, now that I've realized I'm not in love with the food here, the high prices do not seem worth it to me. I understand that the experience might be different for people dining in and enjoying the cozy atmosphere for a while, but for people getting takeout the prices seem much too high. I guess since I'm no longer loyal to Hummus Kitchen, it's time to find a different go-to Mediterranean restaurant with better food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 28, 2024Previous reviewMy absolute favorite takeout spot on the UES, hands down!!! Whenever I come to pick up my food, the place is always super busy and packed with people eating and having a good time. This is true on random weeknights, right before they close at 10, and of course on the weekends. They are very efficient about food pickup, and always have it ready on time.
I always order the mezze platter, and my three go to choices are the stuffed grape leaves, classic hummus, and babaganoush with extra pita on the side. The grape leaves are the best I've had anywhere... they're seasoned just right and aren't gloppy at all, also drizzled with a bitter yet creamy and really interesting sauce and topped with pomegranate seeds. The classic hummus is smooth and delicious, and their smoky addictive babaganoush is perfect, one of my favorite comfort foods.
I've also tried the chicken shawarma hummus and the falafel, too, but they were not as memorable for me. The shawarma was really yummy, but it had something in it that made literally everything in my apartment smell for days afterward. Then their green broad bean falafel were wayyyyy too dry, and not seasoned well enough for my liking. I'm definitely loyal to hummus kitchen and plan to venture out of my comfort zone again on their menu, just not with either of these options. - Nikita T.Freehold Township, NJ23791Mar 1, 20241 check-in
Stopped by for big lunch, just a random pick. Could not be happier.
Place looks like someone really cares about interior upkeep and wants guest to feel welcome.
Menu is on the mini iPads. Just a handful of choices, but both of us were able to pick favorites. We ordered sampler humus, laffa kebab and shakshuka. I specifically loved pita. They are worth coming back for just by themselves. Humus is better than at any supermarket I know. Kebab is just what I expected and then some. Egg dish was so good that my friend was trying to lick the pan. Btw, I loved serving on Woden boards
Finally we hand hibiscus tea. Served in small glasses and then full teapots of additional volume.
I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in the neighborhoodHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 16, 2024Updated review
Good food full of flavors and spices that set this food apart from other middle eastern restaurants. The shawarma was flavor and cooked perfectly. I love the halava parfait for dessert not to be missed

I can honestly say every was delicious. The Medi Red Chicken was super flavorful and moist. Hummus chicken also bursting with flavor. I love eggplant and charred egglant is a must if you love tahini as well. The pita was also spot on and moist.

HUMMUS KITCHEN!! The pita here is absolutely immaculate. Super fresh, incredibly warm, and fluffy. You immediately feel safe and comforted eating this pita. Like a warm embrace from the most beautiful looking cloud. Hummus was flavorful and creamy - the texture was definitely the highlight! Also I'm a sucker for cucumber mint water so that was a huge plus. ALSO ASK FOR HOT SAUCE SO GOOD!

Yummy!
Sums it up! I ordered vegetable soup which was seasoned perfectly and had big chunks of veg. Just like grandmas!
I also ordered the hummus which came warm with extra tahini on top, roasted eggplant with tahini and pomegranate seeds and seasoned baked pita chips. Also ordered a small Mediterranean chopped salad in a lemony dressing
Everything was excellent and the service was even better loved itHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Mar 29, 2024
Not sure what the hype is here. I ordered a couple dishes and was in no way impressed. Maybe I was unlucky with my order but what I'm seeing in the other reviews was not like the experience I had. Plenty of better options. It was like I got the left overs? Won't be returning.
