Hu Tieu Mien Tay, tucked away in Pleasantville NJ, is a culinary hidden gem. Don't let the modest exterior fool you; this spot boasts top-notch cuisine within its unassuming walls. The interior is surprisingly spacious. The menu is a delightful journey through diverse and delectable options.

The portions are impressively generous; I found myself ordering more than I could handle. The fresh spring shrimp rolls, served as an appetizer, were perfection - the sauce complemented the shrimp flawlessly, delivering a fresh and non-crunchy taste. The seafood soup was an enormous portion, providing me with two extra meals. My mother's chicken and pork dish with rice earned high praise - perfectly cooked, tender, devoid of fatty parts, and impeccably spiced.

The extensive menu allows customization of spice levels, and the array of sauces on the table enhances the overall dining experience. While the service was a bit slow, it wouldn't deter me from returning for another delightful meal for takeout.

I've only ordered from here through Uber Eats, so I can't comment on the ambiance but I know they are located next to the Asian Supermarket so they have access to very fresh ingredients! Everything I've had here has been very authentic & tasty.

They're one of the few Vietnamese restaurants that serves a banh mi with pork roll, head cheese & pate which is how I found them! I grew up eating these sandwiches, so I crave them from time to time and the ones here don't disappoint. It's certainly not the best I've had, but when there aren't other options around then it's a 5 star review for me.

I've also had their pho, wonton soup, banh xeo (which is a crepe filled with ground pork & shrimp), & fried egg rolls. Everything is a great portion and easy on the wallet! Their boba drinks are also tasty & everything has always been packaged well so that's stellar service to me!

The service was a bit slow when my group and I sat down. No one handed us menu, water or tea until 5-10 minutes later. The pho lack of a bit of flavor, the bun Bo hue was lacking a lot of ingredients and wasn't spicy enough. The restaurant is mid size can't fit a lot of people. The staff and workers were nice, they do have specials of the day which was oxtail pho. Price is fair, just wish the flavor was there.

Little hope in the wall. But the food in there is amazing. No need to worry if you don't understand about the food. The server there would explain anything you might not understand. Staff is always friendly. I would definitely recommend giving it a shot at this place. You won't be disappointed

It's a random Vietnamese restaurant in an Asian strip mall with a big supermarket in the same building that serves some decent food.

Even though the inside of the shopping complex was pretty gross (not very clean at all) at least there's a lot of parking outside.

The first thing that struck me about this place was how very friendly the staff was. It has a very homey/family vibe and everyone was incredibly nice to the customers.

The food was above average and well-priced. I hit up a few other random Vietnamese joints in the general area (we were searching for food as we stayed nearby on holiday) and this was the best one in terms of food quality and flavor. The meat was pretty good and the portions were reasonable. I thought the broth was also solid. The spring rolls were also good.

I really didn't have anything negative to say other than the restaurant is on the small side and it's inside of a shopping complex/supermarket that really could use some serious cleaning.

We were pleasantly surprised to see a few Vietnamese eateries in Pleasantville during our stay in Atlantic City. We stopped by Hu Tieu Mien Tay for some banh-mi's to take with us to the beach. It's located inside an Asian supermarket at the Pleasant Center strip mall with plenty of parking. The supermarket itself was dumpier than it looked from the outside, but the restaurant itself was actually quite nicely decorated.

We came during mid-afternoon so there weren't many customers, but I've read reviews that this place can be crowded and subject to long service time.

The staff who took our order was very friendly. With the rampant 9% inflation, we were surprised to see the low $5.45 price tags for the banh-mi's. Granted, later when we consumed them we realized that they're smaller than average. Still a good value nevertheless. We got the classic cold cut variety with liver pate which tasted authentic, except I was expecting jalapeno and cilantro buy left disappointed that there weren't any.

They do take credit card, and charge a small takeout fee. The fee makes sense when containers are used for regular dishes, but for banh-mi's which use only paper wrappings, I don't think that's justified.

      Take Out

I have eaten a few times at Hu Tieu Mien Tay that's located in a mall with an asian supermarket and it was always consistent with the other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to over the years. Unfortunately, I recently revisited and was disappointed to find that the quality has changed quite a bit. I won't be ordering their grill meat rice dishes again anytime soon. It was quiet and it can fit large party.

On the upside, I did enjoy their rainbow ice dessert and food was ready at a timely matter. It was quiet there. However, I have to say that the food as a whole was not worth the cost. While Hu Tieu Mien Tay does have the lowest prices in the area, I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for quality Vietnamese cuisine.

Stopped here for breakfast on the way home from AC. No frills spot. Saw Vietnamese families dining at 10am on a Sun, a good sign.

Opted for hu tieu (over pho) considering the name of the restaurant, which was my first time trying. The chicken-based broth was delicious: clean, savory, and flavorful. I chose pork and shrimp as my protein, and loved the addition of cracklings and fried onions.

The fried spring rolls were also excellent.

We stumbled on this great Vietnamese restaurant in Pleasantville.

My wife had Pho Tai Nam which is a beef eye round noodle soup. I had a big cup of Pho Tai Sach which is a beef eye round and tripe noodle soup. I also had a really delicious Bun Bi Thit Nuong which is shredded pork and BBQ pork on rice vermicelli. It was really, really delicious!

If you are ever in Atlantic City, go to over to the Pleasantville Center shopping center and check out this tiny place with a big flavor.

So many great things about this place. But just short of 5 Stars because of a few things we hope to see improved. But don't get it twisted - 4 Stars is very good; excellent in our book! We really love this place!

First - the service. Run by what appears to be a happy family and small team of staff - Hu Tieu Mien Tay is as small, authentic, comfort restaurant as you can get. The people are incredibly sweet. They work hard and take pride in getting to know their customers. Always friendly everytime we visit; welcoming, prompt seating, timely service.

Next - the food. We have tried real Vietnamese food all over, and short of the Westcoast US, here in the East - it's not actually all that easy to find good, authentic flavors. And despite also trying many other Viet restaurants in this area, we keep coming back for the key classic things they do so well.

Pho - Theirs is solid! Deep, traditional flavors that will soothe your soul! The broth is THE most important part of Pho. Noodles and meat, tend to be pretty straightforward everywhere but the broth. This broth! So, so good. Served with a side of fresh bean sprouts, jalapeños, and basil - the Deluxe #23 will revive you of whatever day you're having. We also order just the broth to take extra home with us and believe me - boiled hot over the stove - your house will smell glorious and you can relive that hot holy soup once more!

Spring Rolls - Theirs is THE BEST spring rolls we have ever had anywhere short of Vietnam. We always order multiple orders because we cannot get enough! Homemade and you can see it; taste it. Beautiful rolls of crispy outside, plump inside - drenched in sauce, and wrapped up in pickled radish, basil and lettuce - LEGIT so delish. No commercial grade frozen rolls, no generic yellow wrap, these are amazing and cannot be replicated.

Pork Chop - While admittedly, we've had slightly better elsewhere, their is very very good and again, homemade with some sort of marinade that works to tenderize the pork. Very good and always on our order list.

And some other things we have tried and would like to give feedback on :

Bun Bo Hue - The broth is excellent. (I think there's a reoccurring theme here with this place having amazing soup broth!) But the accompanying ingredients are a bit lacking. This soup needs to be, bigger and more plentiful. It needs more fixings such as more meat, pork knuckles, more patty, shrimp paste, veggies and also the traditional curdled blood that's missing. The soup is so so good - this dish could be a huge standout if they could jazz it up some!

Bun Thit Nuong - Vermicelli Noodles and Salad greens, topped with Grilled Pork or Grilled Shrimp, etc. Because their fish sauce is so good, this dish is still really good as is - but, in recent visits, we've passed on ordering this because it just needs something more. Many places offer a deluxe bowl of sorts with lots of different greens, and a combination of Grilled Pork, Grilled Shrimp and also a Spring Roll, and/or a Patty, etc. Hu Tieu currently only let's you pick one option. For the price - we would love to see them reinvent their take on this dish by adding more to it!

Banh Mi Sandwich - Really good bread, proper traditional Paté and Ham but, unfortunately really small and very little filling inside. We really hope they can change this up for a big upgrade because we would be all over it!

Overall Portion Sizes - We love, love you! But we would be even more satisfied and happy, if there was a bit more value for your menu. Portions are smaller than other local restaurants. And yes, we know that good, homecooked food takes time and labor, and everything costs more nowadays but if you could perhaps re-examine your offerings and see how you could make some adjustments? A smaller, curated menu of your best items? Offering different prices for different sizes on certain things perhaps? Adding a little more to certain things? We would love to see y'all find even bigger success and we hope to be able to update y'all to 5 stars soon!
