About the Business
Garcia's Las Avenidas, located on 35th Ave between Thomas and McDowell in Phoenix, is celebrating 60 years of serving delicious and authentic Mexican food in Phoenix. You won't find a better place for tacos or burritos. This is the original Garcia's, and not to be confused the chain (the family sold their interest). Some taco shops claim to be "authentic," but it doesn't get more authentic than generations of experience. You'll also find soups and salads, homemade menudo, delicious quesadillas, chimichangas and other favorites. Have a friend who's not as big a fan of authentic Mexican food? It's okay. We also have hamburgers, cheeseburgers, a grilled chicken sandwich, in addition to steak dinner. Looking for a Phoenix lunch spot? Lunch specials are served 11AM - 4PM Monday to Friday Their full bar is perfect whether you're looking to cool off with a refreshing margarita, or a Mexican beer. Garcia's is also the place to go when you're looking for a tequila bar in Phoenix. Come in and celebrate a tradition of great food and service.

Really great chips and salsa, carne asada burritos are delicious with rice and beans on the side. Love to come here during lunch hour for work and enjoy and nice refreshing Diet Coke and burrito with some chips and salsa before the main course! Usually sit in the bar area and service is excellent and a nice environment!

Who is tasting this food? Answer: no one. Way too much salt. Way too much. Don't need that much salt. Only so much you can coverup with salt.
I got the three enchilada plate. The flavors made each enchilada into a beautiful color but none had any flavor. The beans and rice were mmm...salty. Too salty. Catch a theme here...?
Guacamole was a frigging thimble. So small. Was $2.65 or more, and it was tiny. TINY.
Want to like this dump. But I can't. It's too salty and worse, they think they're serving gold. It's not.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Mar 16, 2018Previous reviewHmmmm... I wrote a review of this restaurant and now I don't see it, I'm wondering why?
The place is good, old-school Mexican food. Prices are what you'd expect, they're not giving anything away, it's fine.
But these folks confuse "old-school" with a "don't give a sh*t", we'll do it MY way!" * They say they close at 9 weekdays, 10 Fri Sat: do not believe them. They close whenever they damn well feel like it.
* last week, after spending almost $8 on guacamole, I bit down on the external avocado seed, you know, not the pit, the "seed" at the top of the avocado...the one that is removed by ANY COMPETENT COOK? "F-it!" They say. "We're 'old-school', we can what we want!"
* some personnel are there to accept your money. Nothing more. Woman bartender is AWFUL. No service, no help, lots of makeup and attitude. I won't subject myself to her again.
This place is SO SPOTTY that I bgo there once a month, at best. If they actually had any professionalism I might go there once a week. You go there at your own risk, and at your own risk stay away from that bartenderess AND any other restaurant in the neighborhood. They're worse: (see: Los Portales!)
03/15//2018- my last time I go to this dump, I swear.
Again, this joint shows the big difference between "mom-and-pop" and just unprofessional. They close when they want and seem to take pleasure in informing you they're closed. See photo attached says they're open until 10pm. They'll be closed by 9:15 minimum.
The bartenders just act unilaterally (and trust me: there isn't a bartender there that could define unilateral.) Female bartenders live to fool with their hair and then fruit garnish the drinks. Ugh.
I keep thinking 1 meal 5 years ago will magically reappear. It hasn't and it won't. Good riddance.Jul 30, 2016Previous reviewHmmmm... I wrote a review of this restaurant and now I don't see it, I'm wondering why?

Would love to review the food but I can't. We were in from out-of town, saw it on the map (didn't look at yelp reviews ) and placed an order online. Sat in the parking lot waiting and got an update. "Your order has been cancelled because the store is unable to fill the order." Great ending to a 14-hour day of traveling. If you don't have the food, don't take the order.
After reading the reviews, I'm almost kind of glad they didn't have food.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 9, 2023
Fun place to enjoy Mexican food! They have a large dining room that offers space for large gatherings and small intimate ones.
I enjoyed my green chili cheese tamale. It felt like eating a soften green chile corn bread.
I want to try more dishes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Anthony C.Goodyear, AZ043Apr 16, 2024
OKAY! I went with a crowd i knew this time, and it didn't change the food. The food was very strange, horrid texture to everything. My chips kept getting stolen by others. It felt left out to say the least. The was a good noise to it, but it doesn't make up for the food.

It's pretty good mexican food you can get in the valley, I ordered the sonoran enchiladas here and it was good my tip to you though is order it with chicken or beef cuz if you get it plain you'll just get two thick corn tortillas with cheese smothered in red sauce

The OG Garcia's is a simple place. It's been here forever and it may look a little retro but it's a nice place for a family dinner. We've come here a few times. It's a chain restaurant so it's not the greatest Mexican food you'll ever have however it's still quite good. Chips and salsa are served before the meal. The most recent time I went I tried the pollo fundido, which is probably not strictly a Mexican dish but it was pretty tasty especially if you like cream cheese. I mostly enjoyed the different textures. My favorite so far is the spinach enchilada with chicken. Portions are huge so expect to take home a to go box! We've always been seated quickly with very polite waiters who are quick to refill and check but are masters of stopping by and disappearing when not needed.

Came for dinner last night with my mom. We've come before, but this time was such a let down. The service was so slow. The salsa was bland no flavor. We ordered the bean dip which was literally just beans..super bland and gross that we asked for it to be taken back. We shared the fajitas. They took forever to come out as well. The beans and rice served were disgusting..no flavor at all..we didn't even eat them. What a waste. The fajitas were the only thing we ate. We spent $60 and only ate the fajitas. On top of that when my mom was paying the waitress hovered over my mom and had the audacity to ask for her tip! Like are you kidding me?? Super unprofessional and rude. You do not do that. Will not be coming back here ever again or referring people to here. It's sad cuz we use to love this place and it looks like it went downhill.

My husband & I use to LOVE this place! Tonight we had guests from out of town, & they suggested we go here.
The last couple of times, when we went, it's been okay, but tonight was horrible. Our waitress was not very attendant at all. We had to wait 15 mins for drinks, then finally the ladies that bring out the chips & salsa, took our order for drinks. It took another 15 for us to finally place our order. Then while placing our order the waiter (whom wasn't even taking care of our table) would walk off, when we weren't even finish ordering. Mind you, there's a total of 5 of us. Our order came out wrong 3x times. Every time we explain that it wasn't what we ordered we got a big sigh, or an eye roll.
I understand it was busy, it gets overwhelming at times. It was just very frustrating, especially when our waitress was being attendant to her other tables. Or walking by and pretending not to hear us. We weren't the only guest(s) either that was frustrated about the service.
The food was good tho. Once it came out correctly tho.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marcelo M.Phoenix, AZ353Nov 12, 2023
