Yvonne Espinoza College Counseling Services

As a former admissions professional and school-based college counselor of 18 years, I hold deep respect for Yvonne having witnessed her many wonderful attributes working with several of my own students. Her work ethic is unmatched, her loyalty strong, and her commitment to serving students unwavering. She has an excellent sense of humor and wit; she really is a delight to be around! In fact, she forges relationships that span years as many of her clients remain in contact with her well after they have enrolled in college. This is a testament to the comfortability clients feel in her presence. Yvonne is accessible, approachable, and cares deeply about their well-being. She is calm and keeps a cool head in the face of what can be a stressful and overwhelming process.

Students strongly benefit from Yvonne's wealth of experience and continuous search to expand her knowledge in the field. She visits a number of college campuses and attends untold counselor workshops and conferences each year. Her insight and knowledge is valued not just by her clients, for she has more than earned the respect from her colleagues in our profession, both at the high school and university levels. She's just that good!

We were beyond blessed to have Yvonne Ovalle Espinoza as Laurel 's Garza college counselor while she was in high school and we are just as happy to work with her again now post Freshman year in NYC to be sure that Laurel has the right fit at the colleges we over-looked as her goal was then NY and now it is to be home in TX.

I was a very hands-on Mother up until this very important journey but once I realized I was not the right person to help my daughter move on to college I felt very secure in turning the job over to an expert. I could not have asked for a better researched and more compassionate specialist.

Ms. Espinoza guided our daughter through summer program applications, college selection and college applications. Ms. Espinoza's services provided our daughter with autonomy over this process, yet kept us informed of progress and obstacles along the way. Multiple times, our daughter expressed relief that she had Yvonne's expertise at her disposal, particularly for navigating the various writing portions of the applications. Ms. Espinoza adapted her services to the needs of our daughter, proactively identified issues, and suggested solutions, when appropriate. Ultimately, Yvonne encouraged our daughter to perform to her fullest potential and achieve admission to a highly selective university that was her first choice school. Throughout the process, Ms. Espinoza maintained a professional but warm and compassionate attitude to counseling our family through this process.

We are so glad we were able to work with Yvonne for my son's college advising. She provides such a stellar and comprehensive counseling service. She helped my son figure out what his strengths and interests were, helped him research colleges and figure out where he was interested in applying to, and met with him regularly throughout the process to help guide him with the applications, remind him of deadlines, provide feedback on essays, financial aid, honors college applications, you name it! The best part was that while she was always available to us as parents, and communicated to us as needed, she put my son in the drivers seat for the process, ensuring he was the one setting up the meetings, working on his applications, and making the decisions. It really freed us from nagging him and second guessing ourselves. The college application process is so different from when we applied years ago, and Yvonne's knowledge took the stress out of the process. He's excited to start college in the fall, and my younger son is excited to start working with Yvonne this summer.

Yvonne was an invaluable asset during my college application process. She was incredibly informative, encouraging, and genuinely invested in my success. Yvonne never made me feel overwhelmed during the process, and she always made sure to calm me down when I got stressed out. She was also flexible on where we met for our meetings and was always willing to accommodate my schedule. Yvonne is a professional yet super fun college adviser, and I couldn't imagine going through the application process without her help.

At the end of our daughter's Sophomore year, we hired College Counselor, Yvonne Espinoza, to assist our daughter with the college process. My husband and I couldn't be more grateful and happy to have met her. My daughter is only a Junior, and she has already experienced so many things that wouldn't have been possible without Yvonne's guidance. Yvonne has helped my daughter to explore possible majors and careers through one-on-one counseling and a career survey she gives, and my daughter has been exposed to college programs and opportunities that we didn't even know existed (even though we had 2 sons go to college before her- one at Northeastern and one at Cornell University).  My daughter is more confident now in interacting with colleges and about how to navigate things on her own. She also enjoys meeting with Yvonne and trusts and follows her advice. I also regularly reach out to Yvonne with questions and she is always prompt to respond and is very helpful- I definitely feel like we are a team. I can honestly say she has a genuine interest in my daughter's well-being and success, and we feel lucky that we have had her to assist our family this past year and will continue to have it through my daughter's senior year at Westlake High School. I don't know what we'd do without her advice and support and my only regret is that we didn't know of her when my sons went to college.
