Q:
I have an existing solar system do you guys offer services to add couple of panels to existing system?
A:
Hi, thanks for reaching out to us. We can add panels but it wouldn't be connected to the existing system it would be considered a 2nd, separate system.
Devin W., Business Employee15 days agoQ:
Do they replace pool thermal solar systems? And if not, will you refer me to a recommended company that does?
A:
Unfortunately, no; West Coast Solar does not work with thermal solar for pool heating.

Great people and great service. We needed to update the cellular modem on our inverter and West Coast quickly responded to our inquiry and easily navigated around a unexpected challenge during the replacement. The technician quickly identified a solution, made an extra trip to his shop for the replacement and had it installed ASAP.
Separately, their Sales team worked to help us understand why our annual true up bill was excessive. I was quite pleased at the thoroughness and accuracy of their estimates helping us figure out how to optimize our system. Although we didn't have any space for additional panels and we weren't able to add any capacity due to space constraints, their sales team was quite thorough and detailed, modeling multiple options for us.
Finally, all of thier project management and customer support folks were knowedgable and very responsive. Overall this organization does a great job of separating themselves from the rest of the provides with whom we've worked.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Glen W.Concord, CA03Mar 7, 2024
The technicians were very punctual friendly and did clean work at our home and most importantly, my wife felt comfortable having them in our home while I was at work.
We did run into some issues with our inverter failing however, that is simply an anomaly and West Coast solar sent out the same technician who installed the system to replace the inverter free of charge. Additionally they worked with us to provide satisfactory compensation for our loss of productivity, while the system was down.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - David N.San Jose, CA2219Feb 20, 2024Updated review
Updating this review on 2/20/2024. System still underproducing their "guarantee" for three years now. They continue to give me the runaround on the money they owe me for the shortfall AND for a Plan to increase production by adding more panels.
AVOID THIS COMPANY. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY ISSUES WITH THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN MET WITH TERRIBLE SERVICE AND SUPPORT. The positive reviews here are from customer installs where they haven't yet had to get help.
The battery failed, the system under produces their gurantee, my communications are ignored, fixes are not offered, my time is wasted, AND they weren't even the cheapest provider.
Issue after issue. Every one has been a disaster.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Sincerely,
West Coast SolarFeb 23, 2023Previous reviewStarting at the beginning, the sales representative was helpful and responsive. My installation date was delayed a number of times and after the installation was completed, I didn't receive the LG battery backup I purchased for several months after.
The LG battery very quickly died. WCS said they were waiting for LG for several months. The warranty was apparently meaningless. It did ultimately get replaced, but it was over three months before anyone did anything. Most of the time I would send an email that got no response.
Then one of the optimizers died and I was getting no production on some panels for some time. All the monitoring that they touted during the sales pitch was nowhere to be found. I was the one who noticed that it had died and beg to get a repair. The panel wasn't
Then there is the so-called production guarantee. I am three years into owning this system and never once has it met the level of production I was promised. In the first two years, I was blown off when I raised the issue.
On June 29th, 2022 (EIGHT MONTHS AGO), I raised the issue of low production again. They largely ignored most of my inquiries after acknowledging that production was FAR from the guaranteed level. In MID OCTOBER, they finally sent a surveyor to find a new location for more panels on my roof.
Took four months of constantly nagging to get someone out. It took ANOTHER four months from the time a surveyor came for them to send an installer.
On February 7th, they finally sent an installer to put up the three panels. Remember, I raised the issue for two years of low production, and it took nearly EIGHT MONTHS from this chain of communication to lead to this point. The installer left at the end of the day saying his phone was dead so he couldnt verify if my panels were working. It actually seemed to me he was struggling with troubleshooting the new panels because at one point he asked me how many panels I had prior to them arriving. When I told him he looked frustrated. He said, "the panels should come online in a little while but I can't check because my phone is dead". It just so happens that he worked all day and it was now like 5pm. So I check the app every day until now, Feb 23 and the panels are still not online from anything I can see.
I have sent four emails since those additional panels were installed and called once. I have received no responses.
Generally speaking, the vast majority of emails I have sent along this eight month process and the several months of waiting for defective battery to be fixed went unanswered. Not even to confirm that they were received but nothing had changed. The emails I'm sending are CCed to several people on the WCS team, including management. No one gives a damn because they have my money.
I can wait when I need to wait. The lack of communication is really really very disappointing. Here I am and it's almost March and no idea what is happening.
Solar is a commodity and you can get it anywhere. WCS isn't even the cheapest option by any stretch of the imagination. Go elsewhere.
Yes, the company has lots of good reviews, but the vast majority of solar installs go off without a hitch. When things go wrong is when you find out what all the sales bluster, promises and guarantees actually are worth. You're stuck with your solar installer for 20+ years. Don't do it to yourself.
Notice that I'm not the only person complaining about service once they have all your money.
Edit 3/20/23: Shortly after posting this review I was contacted and apologies were expressed and the issue with my additional panels were finally dealt with. On the one hand, the issue was resolved. On the other...it took eight months and a complaint in a public forum. You be the judge on what that outcome is worth.
Guess what though? During a high wind event on 3/13/23, we experienced a major power outage across the bay area, hundreds of thousands of homes. Finally, my $10k investment in a battery backup would come in handy. Guess what? The battery completely failed in a nearly 24 hour outage event. Power went out in the neighborhood and the house experienced crazy power fluctuations and the battery would not provide power to the home even though it was powered on and fully charged. $10k for a battery backup and it was worthless when I finally needed it.
I contacted WCS again by email and they responded quickly and then was promised a call back by end of day (it was about 2pm and they closed at 8pm). Never received a call back and I called and left several more messages up until 8pm. No one up until now has still contacted me to follow up on the battery malfunction. So, there you have it. Not much has changed from my other experiences, despite assurances that things have improved or changed by management. Who knows, maybe they are just punishing me for a 1* review. - 9105146Apr 3, 2024Updated review
The new staff resolved the issue for us. It seems like their new customer service team handles issues with better care - they were able to enable dashboard alerts for us and got the issue resolved within a week. Now going forward, we will receive notifications when our solar stops producing! That's incredibly important to know. Field tech did a great job, got the broken part replaced very quickly.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 16, 2024Previous reviewWe purchased a house that came with a solar panel system by West Coast Solar for about a year and a half now and it has been awful. If we had chosen the system, we would certainly have not gone with this installer! The system was installed in 2019 and it has already broken multiple times. The former owners of this house had West Coast Solar perform the repair last time during escrow - but now that the entire system has been down for over a month, it is much worse than we ever realized.
First, we had to reach out to their Customer Service and the former sales rep by phone and email for months pestering them to get the monitoring system transferred from the prior owners over to us.
Second, West Coast Solar controls the monitoring system, and they didn't even give us access to set up alerts or notifications if the system goes down. As a user, that means you have to proactively log into their monitoring portal to see if the system is producing every single day.
Third, West Coast Solar did not inform us that their solaredge monitoring tool was sending data via the 3G network and would no longer be supported... 3G went out-of-service and we had to do a lot of research on our own to find out how to get the data transmitted from our device to the solaredge servers. My husband ultimately purchased products to set the data transfer over WiFi because the solaredge wanted us to pay something like $500 a year to have a 4G data connection just for the luxury of seeing whether the system is broken or not.
Fourth, when the system went down for OVER A MONTH, West Coast Solar did not inform us nor notify us in any fashion, despite also not granting us rights to see notifications in the solaredge monitoring tool. This ultimately resulted in a $600 electric bill from the utility company because we had no idea our entire solar panel system was broken.
I would recommend that you go with West Coast Solar if you want a system that breaks frequently with limited customer support and you enjoy logging in to a web portal to proactively monitor your own solar panels every single day since WCS doesn't grant you access to set up alerts or notifications. We are planning to double our solar panels and add battery backups, but we will definitely use a different company for that project. - Eric C.Livermore, CA0182Oct 17, 2023

My West Coast Solar system has been offline and not producing power for nearly 6 months!!!
Contacted PG&E to discuss excessive true up bill on August 25th 2023. They informed me that the solar system stopped producing power nearly 4 months prior, April 24th, which is what led to the excessive usage. Neither West Coast Solar nor SolarEdge monitoring informed me the system was not generating power.
Contacted West Coast Solar immediately, they scheduled a tech to come out the following week. Two voicemails I left during the week to confirm the appointment were never responded to. Technician arrived and confirmed that the system would need a burned out component RMA'd. No ETA was given for repair.
Contacted West Coast Solar 3 weeks later to inquire about the status of the RMA. Was told that the tech would revisit to complete the RMA on October 2nd and to have the property assessable. The technician never showed and no further contact from West Coast Solar.
Sent an email last week to West Coast Solar support asking for an update but still no response. It has been almost 7 weeks since the tech identified the problem, but the system is still offline and no follow up visit for repair has been scheduled.Helpful 3Thanks 3Love this 0Oh no 3 - Wes G.Stockton, CA48131Jan 16, 2024
I had high hopes for West Coast Solars given their positive Yelp reviews and their knowledgeable sales representative I initially dealt with.
However, my experience went downhill from there.
The work proceeded at a a fairly quick rate as they were able to squeeze me in sooner than expected even with the influx of solar installation due to NEM. Given that they are the experts, I had a lot of confidence that the work will be done perfectly. I was wrong, the installer began deviating from the agreed-upon plan and constructing the system to how they "feel is the best". Location of the panels mounted not following per contract, caulked excess hole they made, painted over metal conduits unevenly and covering safety warning stickers.
Called/emailed their Project manager about my dissatisfied service with them in hope to get everything resolved. It took many months to get a response, leaving me uncertain about the completion of the project. Communication was a significant issue, as I consistently had to follow up, but often never got a response. And on top of that they often requested payment even when the work wasn't done. The installers claimed expertise but required constant supervision and reminders. Overall, not entirely satisfied with their work ethics and communication.Helpful 1Thanks 2Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

From the beginning of my project to the end, West Coast Solar took care of everything and made adding a 2nd system to my home easy & stress free. I had a previous system built as soon as I moved in 8 years ago that wasn't big enough to cover all of my usage and I had bought my original system thru Costco / Sunrun. What they failed to tell me is that if, in the future, you want to add on additional panels for more power, you cannot add on and extra panels to their systems. I was flabbergasted as well as quite annoyed because my whole reason to go Solar was to save money and to not have a PG&E power bill at end of year. My end of the year true up bill went from a few hundred the first year to almost $1500 last year! That's how much electricity has gone up in the last seven years.
At the end of last year, I decided it was time to build a secondary system to cover that huge and constantly growing true up bill. West Coast Solar took care of all the paperwork, all of the integration of both systems into one system, and I couldn't be happier. Now I have more power than I need and no more true up bill!

I am updating my previous review as almost immediately after I posted it, I was contacted by West Coast to schedule for a tech to come out and investigate the issue. The tech came that same week and fixed the issue within minutes. System has been back up and running smoothly since, which is awesome.
I'm still only leaving my rating at 3 stars (which honestly i think is being pretty generous) because while yes my issue has been addressed, it's a little ridiculous that it took leaving a bad review to actually get some help. Not to mention the $1200 we are still out in PG&E costs because our system was inoperable for 3 months, which literally could have been resolved by a tech in minutes had someone actually returned a call or answered the service ticket that was created but never dealt with until I left the negative review.
Long story short - I really hope the company learns from this and learns to better manage calls/requests for service and it doesn't need to wait until a bad review is left for them to take action.Helpful 2Thanks 2Love this 2Oh no 1Business owner information

Thank you for taking the time to update your review and share your recent experience with West Coast. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to address your concerns. We would like to begin by expressing our gratitude for your patience during what has been one of the most challenging periods in our 17 years of business.
The sunsetting of NEM 2.0 resulted in an unprecedented surge in work for us. This unexpected increase in demand overwhelmed our resources, causing delays in our response time and the inability to address service requests promptly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and other customers.
We are pleased to hear that our team promptly contacted you and scheduled a technician to investigate the issue after you posted your review. It's encouraging to know that the problem was resolved quickly and your system is now functioning smoothly. We strive to provide efficient and reliable service, and we acknowledge that we fell short in this instance.
We understand your frustration that it took a negative review for us to take action, and we assure you that this is not indicative of our standard practice. We are actively working to improve our call management and response system to ensure that every customer receives timely assistance without the need for negative feedback.
We genuinely appreciate your candid feedback and your generosity in leaving us a 3-star rating. We are committed to learning from this experience and implementing measures to manage our service requests better. Our goal is to ensure that every customer receives prompt and efficient support, regardless of the circumstances.
We are thankful for your support during this challenging period, and we are pleased to inform you that we are now nearly fully recovered and in a much better position to provide top-notch service. We value your continued trust and would be delighted to serve you in the future. If you have any further concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly.
Thank you again for bringing these matters to our attention, and we look forward to the opportunity to restore your confidence in our company.Jun 12, 2023Previous reviewWe have had 0 production from our system for almost THREE MONTHS now. I hope this review is helpful to others who are considering West Coast Solar.
While shopping around for solar, I was referred to West Coast Solar by many of my neighbors who all had glowing reviews. I still decided the best course of action was to get as many bids from other companies as possible. After receiving 15+ bids from various other companies, West Coast Solar proved to provide outstanding value and a great warranty that many other companies simply could not compete with.
I appreciate the time, effort and patience from Joe Molale at West Coast Solar while I asked him many questions over an extended period of time. Joe always responded promptly and provided the best customer experience for me.
Travis and Gage, the amazing installers had everything done perfectly and made minor changes to make the installation look even better than what was planned. Thank you for taking the time to treat this as if it was your own home, you made the right choices and I am grateful for this! I can't believe how fast and efficient you both were. Thank you both for your incredible work and awesome customer service!

This five-star review illustrates why you should support local business and why it's worth opting for expertise. If you have a sense of quality, it's worth the upgrade to West Coast Solar. WCS provides expert service, fair pricing, and fine products. Most important, they have the knowledge and experience to handle custom installations precisely and effectively, and to provide reliable, effective after-sales service, providing the customer the highest level of satisfaction. Let me demonstrate this with our experience.
The highly skilled professionals at WCS created an efficient 21-panel installation. Their pricing was extremely competitive, the best bid among several quotations we received. More important, WCS staff demonstrated professionalism and commitment to service that other vendors did not. They coordinated effectively with the contractor who was re- roofing our home, installing rack mounting hardware on the roof sheathing before the water barrier and shingles were installed. The professionals communicated well and coordinated an installation schedule that let each team achieve their best result.
From the beginning design consultation through the installation process, we were provided accurate and clear information and recommendations on the number of panels and micro-inverters, the most effective panel array clusters and orientations, and the monitoring of system performance via the Enphase Enlighten hardware and software. WCS staff showed up when scheduled, performed the installation efficiently, and followed up when we had questions or needed advice.
The system size has been perfect, and our annual true-up is under $200; this powers our home, pool pump, and all the attendant appliances and electronics. The system paid for itself in under eight years. Not unexpectedly, over the years we have had a few instances when we needed service: a couple of failed micro-inverters and an underperforming panel. In each case, WCS customer service was timely and effective, resolving the issues as quickly as possible.
Recently, we needed another service call. Customer service manager Christina set up the appointment and was consistently professional, friendly, and efficient. Technician Cliff was equally pleasant and expert, diagnosing the issue and repairing the system quickly and effectively. Like the rest of our encounters with WCS, this highlighted the importance of experience and expertise, as well as the kind of personal attention you may not get from a national company's staff.
Throughout our experience, every WCS staff member we've worked with has been professional, courteous, and obviously experienced and talented. They know their products thoroughly, have installed many types and configurations of solar systems, and are aware of possible pitfalls and how to avoid them. There's no substitute for this kind of quality.
