The Food At Texas West Was Horrendous.
I Had Only Gone Over There Three Times When My Family Came Down To Visit & Wanted Barbeque Since There In The Neighborhood We Went There To Eat & No One Enjoyed It At All. My Initial Thought Was Because They Were All Just Used To Going To Flints In Oakland, Went Back Two Other Time's & Nothing Was Any Better Than The First Time. Some Of The Food Just Seemed To Be Refrigerated For An Over Extended Time. I'm Glad They No Longer Exist. There Is Now A New Place There, Yet Afraid To Try Them As The Result Of Texas Barbeque, People Have Said They're Good, But Texas Barbeque Now Has Me Afraid To Try Food From ThereHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amy T.Citrus Heights, CA442310Dec 30, 2023
It sucks to see this place switch businesses out of the blue. My hubby who's from the south loved this place as Texas West. It was bad enough seeing the one in Roseville and Folsom shut down but now this location closing down is really disappointing. On top of that, the company who took over is way too expensive!!

Yeah....I can see why people lament on how 'It aint what is used to be'...This business changed hands some time ago & they no longer serve beer. The new owner also is not as charismatic....boo hoo!
What hasn't changed is their burgers...some of the best & consistently good around....I come here for lunch monthly just for the cheeseburger & their great bbq sauce...
I can do pretty damn good bbq at home with my smoker..(cheaper. too!)..so buying bbq at restaurants isnt a priority for me.....but I'll keep coming here for the great burger...Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Holly K.Sacramento, CA412221Jun 1, 2022
This bbq is hit or miss. Never consistent. I am a beef rib junky and its always hard finding a good beef rib in town. When i first started going to JR's a million years ago i could say best beef ribs in town, but alas, now, tuff beef ribs, little to no meat and dried out. Stay away from the sides, mac in cheese, no flavor coleslaw a watered down mess. As rule of thumb , bbq joints never have good sides anyways.
I did for some odd reason went back to this Texas train wreck and the beef ribs were meaty, still a little dry but better then before.
I do for some reason dig the jail house chili even though it is a grease bomb, idk i like paying the next day for bad ideas from the night before.
In a nutshell if you like to gamble on good bbq or terrible bbq, this is the place for you.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gregory D.CA, CA21114Mar 15, 2022
I've heard really great things about this place and how good the barbecue is. Needless to say I try to wait for the opening window of the restaurant and unfortunately I encountered maybe one of the staff or owner. The interaction wasn't the best and I knew that maybe he was having a bad day or something else may have been on his mind. It all resulted in me leaving the restaurant without trying food. Maybe I'll go back and try another day but I cannot recommend per service.

Well,I got ripped off today. Bought the six meat platter, just shy of 30 bucks. Potato salad was above average, mac n cheese was bland. My chicken was dry, shredding dry. The tri tip, dry. The brisket was not dry but not half satisfying in the slightest. The chicken skin had a little flavor the sliced meats, couldn't taste much. Maybe I'm getting the coronavirus . The rib was the best, kind of dry but not juicy. And the sausage was hard to chew and smelled like it turnt, didnt eat it. So that's 5 meats. I can't review the sixth meat cause I didnt get it. They forgot it or were out, they never comunicated with me that there was only five meats. Texas toast was good bread. Was lightly crispy. Very light butter and no or little cheese, I couldnt tell.
I get times are tough and volume for customers may be low but saving food or rewarming multiple times or whatever they are doing and selling it is wrong. Half of it is inedible. The woman working the register was polite, helpful and nice. 5 stars for her.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marie A.Carmichael, CA117361May 28, 2022
Hadn't been here in a long long , it was a friends turn to pick so here we are. Well, the bbq sauce wasn't bad. That's about the best I can say. The salad - $14 for bagged iceberg with a few pieces of barely cooked chicken. Ribs were ok, not too fatty and cooked ok. Texas toast ? More like Texas sandwich bread, semi burnt. Brisket wrap was a decent size but there was almost not cheese. Carolina Pulled pork sandwich was ok. Coleslaw was pretty standard, not sweet. Garlic fries were pretty overpowering - a lot of little crispies. Staff was ok, not hurried. Overall, it was okay. Probably be another few years before someone picks it and we end up back.

Standard BBQ when I get the taste for it. Good BBQ in Sac is hard to find but this is a solid reliable go to. Ribs are solid with a good smoke layer but sometimes too fall off the bone in terms of doneness, 1/2 chicken is pretty Smokey so I remove the skin, coleslaw slaps, Mac and cheese maybe not the greatest but hits the spot

This restaurant appears CLOSED permanently and there's a new temporary sign saying it's now Kyngs BBQ. Too bad, it was great food.

I'm always on the hunt for a good BBQ place in the Sacramento area... it's a genre that I feel isn't particularly well represented. I've seen this place come up on the Yelp listings, but wasn't so sure because of the unusually wide range of ratings - so I never went out of my way to find it.
Tonight, I was hungry and driving down Fulton Ave... and boom, there it was calling out to me! I was past it before it caught my attention and "sunk in" so I had to do a somewhat questionable traffic maneuver to get back to it.
I arrived slightly after 8 and they closed at 9, so it was towards the end of the day for them. That didn't seem to be any problem.
I scanned the full menu, but decided to go with the daily special to save a couple of bucks. I've been eating out a lot lately, and it adds up!
The daily special for Wednesday was the Pulled Pork Platter - and I picked Potato Salad and BBQ Beans for my sides.
The pulled pork was very good! The standard sauce that came on it was good, but I put some of their spicy sauce on it and that rocked! The potato salad was pretty much just the way I liked it. The BBQ beans were cooked well, but lacked a little BBQ for my taste so I added a little bit of their standard BBQ sauce and mixed it in. That kicked it up a notch!
I was very happy with the value - great portions at a very reasonable price (partially due to it being the special of the day). I'll definitely come back to try some other items on the menu as it's tough to judge a BBQ place on one entree only.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0
