From the outside, this location looks like a hole in the wall, but on the inside, it is a beautiful home-like restaurant. This is some of the best sushi i've ever had and I've traveled to Japan and China. The staff is extremely friendly and I love every time I go

Sushi ya has been my spot for the last 10 years, brother Joe was the best. Since the place was sold I have been here 2 times. The rolls are not the same. My absolute favorite roll has been the hellboy. Even though they cost 17$ a piece I enjoy them so much I buy 3 and eat every piece. Today's hellboy is a shell of what it used to be. I include pictures and you be the judge. It's time to find a new sushi spot. Brother Joe, you are missed. Not only for your fabulous sushi, but also for your amazing conversation and friendship.

I agree with Gabriel's review below. This used to be my go to sushi place. My wife and I were suspicious that something has changed because the wait staff is entirely new and the chef behind the counter isn't the same guy.
They removed my wife's favorite dish from the menu(chicken bowl) as she doesn't like crudo. The fire Crunch roll, my favorite, is still on the menu but it's not quite the same. Not that is bad but, it's not at the same level it used to be.
Also, we moved farther away a couple years ago which makes the drive now less tolerable than it used to be.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 8, 2018Previous reviewSimply one of the best sushi places in the suburbs. The place isn't really fancy but who cares? The food speaks for itself.

Was not a fan of the quality here. Service is typical. The rolls we ordered all seemed too chewy and we kept spitting out seaweed that was just too chewy. Few of the roles didn't taste fresh. Willing to give it another try but I feel

This has been our go-to sushi place since we moved to Schaumburg in 2007. Great quality sushi, friendly and attentive service, and reasonable prices.
Is it fancy? Nope.
Exotic cocktails? Nope.
Little flowers and fancy plates to make a gorgeous presentation? Nope.
Just good food served by nice people at a reasonable price.
We've tried pretty much every other sushi place in and around Schaumburg.
We keep coming back to Sushi Ya.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Aug 31, 2018Previous reviewWe have been coming here for over 10 years. NEVER had a bad experience.
Always great food, great service, at a reasonable price!Jan 28, 2016Previous reviewMy wife and I were here again on 1/28/16. As usual... great service, generous portions of very fresh sushi, at a reasonable price. What else can I tell you?

You're entitled to your opinion, and I respect that. I think your review is wrong, but you're entitled to that opinion. I've posted a picture too, so you don't think I'm hiding.
My wife and I again ate here in mid August, 2015. As usual, we received great service, great food, good portions, at a fair price.Feb 4, 2015Previous reviewMy wife and I have made this our go-to place since we've lived in Schaumburg since March of '07. The service is excellent. You're greeted warmly when you come in. If you've never been here, note that it's a storefront in a strip mall, so it's not a big place. It's popular with the local folks, so if it's Friday or Saturday evening, expect to wait for a table.
The portions are generous and the prices are fair.
We've been here long enough and often enough to know that if you think you got bad service or bad food, it was either a serious fluke, or your standards are just way too high. Go away and make room for the rest of us that love this place!
My wife and i were just there again this evening (Wed, Feb 4, 2015). As usual, great service and great food at a reasonable price. - Nicole B.Streeterville, Chicago, IL03Feb 22, 2024
I've been coming here for years, and we've celebrated many special occasions here over the years. We were so sad when the original owners were leaving. We finally tried it out and they had most of the same sushi rolls. One of our favorites was the avocado torch. The new avocado torch didn't have the creamy topping. It was basically crunch mixed with olive oil instead of how it used to be with the mayo and shrimp. We were disappointed. We plan on coming back but please try and make the avocado torch roll how it used to be.

Delicious portions of sushi, fantastic service, delicious & amazing seaweed salad. Tiny restaurant that was so small I was unable to distance myself from undisciplined & boisterous children, it felt like a space of 10 feet by 10 feet square. When I walk in and it's like chuckee cheese, I tend to stay for a short period of time and spend less.

The service to the food was top notch. It's a small restaurant that serve very fresh sushi. The complimentary miso soup when you sit down is very tasty. The staff were really friendly and kept checking up on us to see if we needed refills. The sushi is super authentic with tons of different kinds of sushi available. It's a bit expensive but reasonable for what you are getting. You leave full and relaxed.

Tonight we went to sushi-ya. It's a small but nice little sushi restaurant with a huge menu. We were immediately sat and warmly greeted. Their menu is massive.
We had California rolls, soup, dragon rolls, spicy salmon, tuna rolls and all were delicious and fresh.
Overall, this place was very friendly and tasty! Only thing keeping it from 5 stars was the price. I feel the tab should have been about $75 but it was almost $100. They are a definitely worth checking out!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0
