This is my favorite sushi spot in Manhattan. It's intimate, only about 4 seats inside, with some space outside.
Extremely well priced and fresh, their uni is amazing as well as the fatty toro special roll with pickled radish. There are no cocktails here, the focus is on the fish.
It's a great spot to bring a friend or family member to show off what the N.Y.C. food scene has to offer and it's close enough to Washington Square that it's worth it to grab takeout if there's no seating.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 28, 2024
My first impression: Decent, but not my favorite. Sushi was slightly smaller compared to other sushi places that are selling similar sushi sets/prices. There was more rice than fish.
I would give it another try but a different set (wasn't a fan of the toro taku roll).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rebecca Z.Berczy Village, Markham, Canada401624May 17, 2024
Got the premium set, A5 wagyu, and miso soup. The fish (especially salmon - absolute melt in your mouth), uni, and wagyu were delightful. They use real wasabi root which is really important for me and shows me that you care about the details. Got so lucky with the walk in (make a reso if you want to eat there) and the ambience was so intimate and pleasant because the service staff were so friendly. A true 10/10 restaurant for me and will easily become my go to solo dining spot for a pick-me-up or as a personal reward.

I'm going to do my best to get through this review without mentioning my Japan trip, but it's going to take everything I have. I feel like the meme of the guy ready to explode from trying to keep his mouth shut, veins bludgeoning out of his neck and forehead. Oh you haven't been to Japan??????
Sushi 295 Mercer is the best Sushi I have had since my trip to......I mean Sushi 295 Mercer is legitimately the best sushi I have had in the United States of America.
A friend, who has impeccable food taste, recommended it to me as he said it was his favorite sushi in NYC, but that it's "super lowkey" and "hasn't blown up yet." The cat has yet to be let out of the bag so to speak.
Since there are only 4 seats for dine-in, I was JUICED when I got a res 3 days before as a budding love interest and I had made plans to grab food. "Oh yeah I got us a res at this sushi spot I've been dying to try, only 4 seats in the place tho!" I'm so cool and trendy Hehe haha :)
Upon our initial walk by, we missed it as the sign is discrete so keep your eyes and ears up. Head on a swivel always. We walked in and were greeted by this cute Japanese lady, and she pointed to 2 seats at the sushi bar that were an arms distance away.
This place truly is tiny, but authentic and cute without taking itself too seriously. Everything in here is functional, there is no added decor to try and impress. This is precisely what I loved about my time in Jap....I mean this is what I've read about Japan. It's all about functionality over there, and every good restaurant is essentially no frills. Everything and everyone serves a purpose, no ostentation for ostentation's sake. Or so I've read.......
While sitting at the bar, the employees are cutting the fish right there in front of you, cranking out togo orders like the Vietnamese were cranking out heroin for Frank Lucas back in the late 60's. This spot is definitely more geared toward togo orders... I mean obviously. There are only 4 seats lmao.
We started with a miso soup, and ordered the sushi for 2 which comes with 30 pieces of sushi. After a short argument on whether the items in a miso soup were called "fixings" or "fixins," which I obviously won but the aforementioned budding love interest could not admit defeat, our sushi arrived.
It is true artistry here. The quality of fish is 2nd to none and I can only imagine it would remind someone of the best sushi that they had had on a trip to Japan.... Please watch the video I attached here, my goodness. I'm getting hungry just watching it back.
Every bite literally melts in your mouth and the fish is as fresh as the Notre Dame head coaches fade for a national televised game. He's really fresh out the chair for those games lmaaooo.
Not sure where they are getting their fish from or how it can be this much better than anywhere else I've been lol. The fatty tuna, the piece of charred salmon, and the eel were a 3 way tie for my favorite piece. The triple crown. I don't know how else to articulate how good this sushi was. I am at a loss for words for once.
I will quite literally never order takeout sushi from anywhere else, as this place isn't even that expensive. I'd say it's relatively low priced for sushi in NYC. Y'all can keep Bondst, Sugar Fish, Sushi by M, Nobu, etc. I'm ROCKIN with Sushi 295 Mercer.
Something special is going on here. Makes me want to book a Japan trip.....................

Super fresh and good quality fish!! I got takeout as well and it was super good and affordable for the quality of fish. The sushi rice they use is also a chefs kiss in terms of texture and flavor.
Got the salmon sashimi salad and the toro scallion roll, both of which I highly recommend! The toro was super fresh and the scallion added a nice touch of freshness. The salmon was also buttery soft and the salad had a nice gingery dressing.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - Janet L.New York, NY346237458Mar 14, 2024
I thought the price of the food was fair. Ordered takeout through DD. The presentation could have been better but that might the nature of delivery. Got the sushi premium and the spicy tuna avocado roll. enjoyed the rolls but the sushi piece were only okay. Wouldn't call it affordable omakase quality but should say it's above the average sushi place. Probably would recommend more of the rolls. The sushi piece didn't feel that great quality

This place is great, it's almost a sushi speakeasy. They have a counter for 4 if you want to go in but be mindful it's BYOB and has no bathroom onsite but it's an hour so you should be able to make it through.
The sushi is fantastic, the quality of the fish is awesome and the chef has worked at Nobu and Masa previously.
Definitely make a reservation if you plan to go but ordering to go / or delivery it's also fantastic and the pricing is also great.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1145481193Jun 11, 2023
Woah! Fish texture was amazing.
Staff was friendly at pickup.
Online ordering is smooth.
I'd order again!
The restaurant only has a sushi bar with four seats, but they have a strong takeout system.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jul 9, 2023
We ordered the sushi premium, which was a roll and 10 pieces of nigiri. The fish was fresh and excellent, and their nigiri pieces were pretty generous. Also the rice was cook perfectly, and had a nice balance of sweetness and vinegar.
We ordered to go, which didn't seem to affect the taste.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 26, 2023
Warning, very small place. Literally seats only 4 people. I saw a lot of take out. Good thing I called to make a lunch reservation. I don't know where I saw their omakase for $100 but it was half of that. We thought we were getting 8 pieces but they gave us an additional 2. Not the best omakase I've had but also not the worse. The 5 stars are for the quality and the price. Very fresh fishes. The service was very good too.
