Portland was dubbed "Stumptown" in the mid 1800's after massive logging stripped the douglas fir forests around Portland leaving thousands of tree stumps behind. That lumber went on to be used to build the barns, homes, and buildings that became Portland. Now 160+ years later we are giving that very same old growth lumber new life as those structures are deconstructed and recycled. Stumptown Reclaimed handcrafts one-of-a-kind tables and other furniture from this old growth reclaimed wood. Old growth reclaimed wood provides a beauty and grain you can't find in modern lumber. Each piece is handcrafted and made to order. Get in touch anytime to talk about what I can create for you!

We've had our custom table for about 9 months now and couldn't be happier. It was great to find a local place that would make a table to exact dimensions. And the quality is amazing - buttery, smooth finish, nicely rounded edges, beautiful wood and legs. The most amazing thing is that nothing seems to stain the finish! Water rings and dried-on wine spills buff right out. I was skeptical of that claim, but it's true! We highly recommend Stumptown Reclaimed.

I had a live edge 30"x60" desk made from reclaimed western walnut by John @stumptown reclaimed. It's absolutely perfect and so beautiful. He mounted it on a slick electric sit stand up frame. John was a pleasure to work with. No doubt I'll be a repeat customer.

Literally nothing but the absolute best things to say about John and his work. He was a joy to work with, very personable and knowledgeable, happy to answer all of our questions and make recommendations based on my partner's and my rather disparate tastes. We ended up choosing a walnut table for our new house and it is absolutely GORGEOUS. I would absolutely recommend Stumptown Reclaimed--worth every cent!

Absolutely beautiful and functional furniture. We have put our table to the test with pets and small children and it's durability blows us away. We also get comments on how beautiful it is all the time. This was one of the most pleasant and best furniture purchases we have ever made.

We are super happy with the coffee table we had made from these guys. Super friendly local guys. We were able to specify dimensions, wood type, wood defect levels, and stain. Amazing you can get customized furniture for these prices.

We were completely delighted with the two desks that John and the team at Stumptown Reclaimed made for our home office. The desks are beautiful, unique, and were a great value. We even learned that the wood used to make the desks had previously been joists in the hospital where "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was filmed - wow! It is great to have such well made and attractive pieces of furniture, that also have a history (and a story), all while making use of reclaimed materials from Oregon.
The process was easy and led to a bespoke (yet very reasonably priced) end product. We started by visiting John in his workspace / showroom. We learned that the primary material they use is fir, which has a beautiful grain, and some dramatic knots and "flaws" that add to the uniqueness of each piece. There are multiple levels of stain you can choose from, and you can determine the exact dimensions you want (they price by the foot- very simple). Then there are multiple types of legs from which to choose.
From there, John works hard to make your piece of furniture *exactly* what you need. For example, we wanted pieces with some character, but at the same time had two special requests: (1) that the front edge be a bit extra rounded as I rest my wrists on that surface when I type, and (2) that there be a good writing surface with fewer knots that I could use near the front of the desk. Both needs were totally met. Within a few weeks, they delivered the desks, assembled the legs, and left us with two pieces of art for less than we would have paid for something more generic at a big chain store. I love these guys.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Lisa H.Beaverton, OR1713Aug 2, 2016
These guys are awesome and so are their tables! John and his brother did an amazing job creating 17 custom tables for our office remodel. We had them build 3 long kitchen tables, 11 conference room tables and 3 coffee tables. They were accommodating, kind, and built the tables in a very reasonable amount time. We were only going to order about 6 tables, and we kept placing more orders since they looked so great and were so affordable. We highly recommend these guys for high quality reclaimed wood tables.

I seriously couldn't be happier with the dining table John built for us! We looked a long time to find the perfect "fit" to be the centerpiece of our entire first floor. We met with John and just knew that he truly cared. He stood out among many and, three months later, I couldn't be happier with the purchase. Even with 5 and 7 year old boys the table stands up strong to some tough love. I highly recommend John and his work!

I had been looking for an original reclaimed table for a while and stumbled upon Stumptown Reclaimed. My husband and I met with John at his shop and we were able to see some of his work and discuss what we wanted. John is willing to work with whatever you want. At first I was a bit restrictive as to how I wanted it done because I was worried about the mess of my young kids and crumbs falling in the cracks of the reclaimed wood. However, in the end, we decided to let John go with his creativity. As a result, we have an amazing dining table that is truly a piece of art and we couldn't be happier. Thanks John for your creativity, we look forward to many family gatherings around our table and we will definitely be returning customers!

John is great, and does beautiful work. My wife and I had a maple entrance bench, and black walnut coffee and side table made by him. All three pieces came out amazing. Our coffee table is stunning, and will be a conversation piece for years to come. Fully recommend Stumptown Reclaimed for any reclaimed, live or straight edge wood furniture needs. John even delivered to our home in Vancouver Wa, for a small fee. We will definitely be back for other pieces in the future.
