Wow! What an experience. Impeccable service, atmosphere, people, and food. My party got the steak tartare and crab dumplings to start, which were both delish. We then got the duck, tilefish, and poulet rouge paired with the Mexican street peppers and bok choy. For dessert with got the chocolate mousse cake. Phenomenal - all of it. Not even mentioning the cocktails we got were great. Not an experience you're going to get everywhere.

Nestled in a beautiful historic home in Charleston, Southbound embodies the essence of fine dining with its wood-fired cooking, perfectly balanced cocktails, and intimate ambiance.
Upon entering, guests are greeted by the warm glow of the wood-fired oven, setting the stage for an unforgettable culinary experience. The menu, thoughtfully curated and rotating with the seasons, showcases the chef's dedication to using locally sourced ingredients and traditional wood-fired techniques.
Each dish is a masterpiece, perfectly cooked to highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients while infusing them with a tantalizing smokiness. Whether it's the succulent roasted meats, or charred vegetables every bite is a celebration of culinary craftsmanship.
Complementing the exquisite cuisine is a selection of expertly crafted cocktails, where every sip is a journey of flavors. From classic concoctions to innovative creations, the bar staff's attention to detail ensures that each drink is a work of art.
The intimate environment offers cozy seating and attentive service, invites guests to linger and savor every moment. Whether it's a romantic dinner for two or a gathering of friends, the restaurant provides the perfect backdrop for creating lasting memories.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 9, 2023Previous reviewOne of the best new restaurants in town! We went for Valentine's Day right after opening weekend! Everything is cooked live wood fire! Such a cool cooking technique! We had amazing cocktails/wine! Lamb chops, golden tile fish, side of potatoes, foie gras and two amazing desserts! We do know their menu is frequently changing so you may have a different menu but I would trust everything is super on the menu! The staff was so kind and knowledgeable, making the experience wonderful. The house is gorgeous! With multiple seating options even outside, next time we would go back and sit at the Chef's Table! Highly recommend for next date night!

I rarely leave reviews but Southbound absolutely deserves a positive one.
I took my girlfriend for her birthday and we were blown away by the experience. From the moment we got there, we were greeted on the porch with a glass of champagne and she received a rose. The meal was superb - the rabbit gnocchi, octopus, and duck were incredible. After we finished the meal, they came over with a personalised birthday card for her and because she's allergic to eggs and couldn't eat the desserts, they brought her a little homemade chocolate treat to enjoy.
Aside from the incredible experience, the restaurant is gorgeous, and the wait staff are all so lovely and attentive.
Would very much recommend if you're looking for a special meal in the area. Will be back again next time we visit!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Colby C.Asheville, NC096Mar 9, 2024
Amazing experience through and through. From the greeting on the porch, the intimate table setting, amazing service, and even more amazing food. This resteraunt really curates an excellent experience. Once you order everything at the beginning of your meal you can sit back and relax as the dishes roll out perfectly timed. The chefs delivered the dishes themselves and were as enthusiastic to explain them as we were to eat them. Our server was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and helped guide our choices. The menu on their website was definitely different than the one we were handed. Their menu rotates so frequently that their website lags behind, and that's a great thing. Don't let it scare you away from a reservation, but let it excite you for the surprises that await. We sat on the balcony of the back porch where there are only 3 tables and it was very private! This resteraunt is going into our list of required visits every time we visit the city.
Absolutely try this place. You won't regret it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1949104Jan 7, 2024
Lovely in every way. Southbound lived up to its reputation during our visit, being a sister restaurant of Honeysuckle, this elegant and romantic spot sits in a lovely historic home on Cannon Street.
The live-fire cooking as you enter the home is the center of attention, although the artwork and architecture throughout the restaurant are just as captivating.
More than dinner, Southbound engages your senses and creates an exceptional dining experience.
Seating tips: Our suggestions are the immersive chef's counter, the romantic porch swings, and during warm weather months- the outdoor terrace or the second floor balcony overlooking the courtyard.
My entree was the Scallop Crusted Halibut, Artichokes a' la Barigoule, Smoked Shiitake.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 16, 2024
I had one of the best restaurant experiences of my life at Southbound. Southern hospitality and fine dining in cozy house. Greeted by a super kind gentleman and offered a toast to celebrate the reason for our visit. All staff we warm and kind, even the ones that cleared our plates or brought the food. Our server was informative, patient, and attentive. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The only thing I would change would be for there to be more honey on the cheese plate. Favorites were the steak tartar and the bok choy, which was like a warm caesar salad. Definitely go and indulge and feel taken care of.

Came with our friends for a belated birthday celebration double date night and we were thrilled! I am a big fan of everything Heather Hutton does, and when I saw she was now the pastry chef here, we HAD to go. But first - dinner! We started our evening at the bar, as we found parking easier than expected. Right on time, we were seated at our table right around the corner. The ambience is really an upscale vibe. There were four of us, so we ended up ordering a good bit of the menu and just sharing with each other. I LOVE steak tartare and order is pretty much anytime it's on the menu, so that was a favorite for me. While my steak was delicious, the pork was the star of the table (and 2 people chose it)! The sides were all yummy, but our least favorite was the kimchi potato (just not very kimchi-y). The kale was delicious and the gournay potato was INCREDIBLE. NOW FINALLY - It was time for dessert. We got everything, because why would we not? As expected, I loved it all but the hot fudge chocolate hazelnut napoleon - *chefs kiss*. I want to eat it daily.
All in all, we will definitely be back. I love that they change up their menu, I love the vibe and service, and I love the food. Go and enjoy!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - Sep 17, 2023
Finally checked out Southbound Friday night. Our waiter recommended amazing options. But first, let's discuss parking. You will definitely have to hunt and search for available spaces. The restaurant space is small but has a nice ambiance. We started with the peach salad, elk and octopus appetizers. The octopus was our favorite. For dinner we had the Red Drum, Duck, and Halibut. The Red drum fish did not disappoint! The sides we ordered were the heirloom tomatoes, broccolini and potatoes. I was not a fan of the grilled flavor of the broccolini. The highlight of the night I would definitely say was the cocktails. Michael our server gave great recommendations on all our drinks. They provide a very nice cocktail menu in the form of a little book. Overall it was a nice experience.
We parked in the old Hominy Grill parking lot and paid per hour. It's on the same street as the restaurant. They also did have vegetarian options.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 27319501Jan 25, 2024
We had an amazing date night! Everything we ordered was delicious, customer service was stellar, and it was nice sitting on the porch and having the evening to ourselves. It was easy to find parking as well!
