People immediately think of Sichuan food as being hot, sour, sweet, and salty; using fish sauce; or having a strange taste. Actually, these flavors were introduced only in the last 100 years, and initially were popular only in the lower strata of society. Hot pepper, an important flavoring in Sichuan cuisine, was introduced into China only 200 to 300 years ago. During the period of the Three Kingdoms, the kingdom of Shu was located in Sichuan. According to historical research, the people in Shu liked sweet food. During the Jin Dynasty, they preferred to eat pungent food; however, pungent food at that time referred to food made with ginger, mustard, chives, or onions. As recently as 200 years ago, there were no hot dishes in Sichuan cuisine, and few were cooked with pungent and hot flavorings. Originally, its flavorings were very mild, unlike the popular dishes of today, such as pockmarked lady's bean curd and other hot dishes, Even today, some Sichuan dishes, like velvet shark's fin, braised bear's paw, crisp duck roasted with camphor and tea, sea cucumber with pungent flavor, minced chicken with hollyhock, boiled pork with mashed garlic, dry - fried carp, and boiled Chinese cabbage have kept their traditional flavors.

If you're in Chinatown and looking for authentic Chinese (Sichuan) cuisine, look no further. Delicious specialty dishes and with a really superb staff. We never miss out on the twice cooked pork belly (回锅肉). I would also recommend their Chongqing chicken (辣子鸡). I am a huge fan of Chinese cuisine and while there are some great spots in Manhattan, my family and I will always be regulars here!

It looked busy when we entered, but soon realized it was just because of one big party who were having some sort of birthday thing. They put karaoke up on at the front so it was incredibly loud with horrible singing.

Food is about ~$20 per entry, which isn't bad but it was very mid. Everything is served on disposable plates, which isn't uncommon for the area.

The only good dish was the husband and wife beef. This was quite flavorful and a great amount for 3 people. Beef MaLaTang had a lot of beef but was almost flavorless. Chongqing chicken was not crispy at all and on the saltier side. Everything could have used more of the numbing spice too.

I love Chongqing chicken and saw their lunch special that caught my eyes in front of their door. The service is really not great. Their ambiance is dim and dark. The worst part is when I picked up my food, it weigh like a feather! Opened my order when I got home and got half a container of chicken with spices. Usually chongqing chicken is fried chicken nugget; this sure wasn't it. And the smallest container of rice for their extremely overly salty chicken. There's a lot of good food in Chinatown, Yelp before you try. I regret my decision.

Sichuana hear about my New York trip then here we go! We weren't really prepare for any popular food recommendations this time around so we thought we would go somewhere there were decent amount of people dining in. At the time, it was here. We order the dumpling in hot oil, roast pork bun and some noodle my girlfriend ordered. Food was good and service was ok. The best out of the 3 dishes were the buns, son... the noodles were a bit too salty in some area and the dumplings didn't really have flavor aside from the hot oil it was dipped in. Overall, solid but could be a better place giving the amount of dim sum and food in Chinatown.

Lacks flavor, the best part of the meal was the beer. Had to ask for water. Please don't come and ask me for the tip while we are still here. Lots of restaurants try to do this when your dining with out of town friends but don't realize you are a local.
      3 dumplings $8, crispy noodles $18, bottled beer $8.
      Skip it, hard pass.

The food here was AMAZING!! We tried a bit of a few different foods. The spicy pork dumplings in hot oil were sooo good! I wish we got another round. The Dan Dan noodles were spectacular. It was listed under the cold selections but it was actually a hot dish, which we got to find out from the friendly staff. The soup dumplings weren't our favorite, but it might have been our preference for the flavor.
