Like the others, it helps to know where to go and what you want/need with this store location. The huge parking lot is a good selling point, and in recent months I'm certain the mail center gets attention because that useless nightmare of a post office at 55th/Lake Park practically begs you to stay away!
Anyway, I come here to get toner, and I buy in advance and pick up in the store most of the time. This time I came in Sunday around 1:45 or 2pm and it was very light (after 5 during the week is not the best time, too busy) and I was out quickly. The very young cashier kept trying to get me join some 'ink/toner club' where I can decide when/if they want to send me toner! Great, what's the alternative? It's bad enough the toner I use is NEVER on sale! I don't buy it enough for all that. I was able to get a good external hard drive.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John D.Chicago, IL04Jul 3, 2023
The manager was very helpful. I got a full refund. The staff is also very helpful too. It's nice that a store stands behind what they sell.

The customer service here is non-existent. The print and copy area should be shut down. They don't even acknowledge you when you're in line, and it takes three of them to do one project while ignoring the one or two people that are waiting.
They should close this location down.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - G R.Chicago, IL20210271575Sep 23, 2020Updated review
Not as good as it used to be and it wasn't great before. Lots of empty shelves and things out of stock. Are they closing up?
Cashier as before, was very friendly and upbeat. Other than that, this was my attempt to shop brick & mortar.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Aug 16, 2011Previous reviewNot the newest or brightest of office supply places, however I'm glad it's there as there isn't much else in the area. I know there is a Walgreen's across the strip mall, and I guess that's fine if you need to buy only a pen or a pad of paper.
This isn't my usual place to buy office supplies, however you can get the basics here, I needed a couple of surge suppressors, hanging files, tape, and a few other miscellaneous things. They do carry some computers, printers, and equipment, but they seem to be priced high on that stuff. They also have a very limited supply of software, I guess they should be commended for carrying it for the people who lack the planning skills of ordering it online.
Overall the staff seemed friendly, I really didn't need assistance with my stuff, and the cashier was quick and efficient.
My only complaint was at the credit card pad, you could barely and I mean barely read it, you had to guess where the box was to sign and check off done. Which means you couldn't see the total, so check your receipt if you're at the last register on the west side of the store. - Jennifer S.Chicago, IL97957Jan 25, 2020Updated review
The print center: polite but consistently VERY VERY VERY SLOW. Every. Time. I'm there. The slowwwwwest service ever. Even if you are the only one there they manage to putter around with other things while you wait.

This place is the absolute worst. All I want to do is pick up SIX COPIES that I ordered and paid for online. WHY should I have to wait for entire services to be completed for people ahead of me when literally all I need is to have an envelope HANDED TO ME from the other side of the desk?! I don't need to order, I don't need to pay, I JUST WANT MY COPIES. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. WHAT IS THE POINT OF ORDERING ONLINE WHEN I STILL HAVE TO WAIT IN LINE FOR A HALF HOUR TO PICK UP?!
FIX THIS.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 25, 2019
It never fails to amaze me how long it takes for checkout - oh that's right, there is always only one register open and they move at snails pace. I can not determine if they are understaffed or over budget, but do not expect employees to help you find an item. Speaking of items, PRICE CHECK EVERYTHING. Office Depot price matches with their website and each time I have found the online prices to be cheaper so they have to match it. Overall, this is not a good Office Depot, but it is conveniently located in Hyde Park and nearby for UChicago students.

I hate this place.
Sometimes I come here to use the copy center. Like right now, as a matter of fact, on my lunch break. They have one guy helping 6 people. Aren't there cameras back to the manager's office? Can't he/she get someone out here to assist?
I should probably add the guy working here is working his tail off. He's just overmatched and under-supported.
These are the questions I've asked for four years. They don't understand. Avoid this place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ted K.Chicago, IL50174864May 11, 2019
I had a great experience here and I will return to get the name of the guy who helped me. I think it was May 7, evening. Black guy with glasses deserves an award and should be used as an example to train all retail workers. After much effort and smart searching, they didn't have the exact thing I needed. The guy found it in stock at the nearby Fullerton location. Much goodwill.

The store is clean and the staff are nice. This is in a nice location in prime of Hyde park. They have free parking too in the lot. Unfortunately if you are doing anything in the print/copy center go to another store or another location. It's soo slow!! Slow is an understatement. Snail mail is like express mail to the way the staff operate. I wish they had a sense of urgency. The company could be a great place for the community, but I can see their future dwindling. The equipment like the lamination machine may or may not work so a call in advance is best. Good luck.
