McCaulou's Department Store

I purchased a shirt at McCaulou's in Lafayette, and a week later attempted to return it at McCaulou's in Orinda. The shirt was never worn, tags still attached, receipt in hand. The salesperson would not accept the return or exchange because the shirt "didn't look familiar" to her. Umm, excuse me...?
I returned the shirt in the Lafayette store and the salesperson said that what I was told in the Orinda store was completely untrue and inappropriate. All returns are accepted within 30 days with a receipt.

Would that have happened to someone of a "lighter hue"? I doubt it... Yes, I'm a Black woman.

Needless to say I will never frequent
McCaulou's again.

I love this store. Seeing that retail is closing down throughout the bay area, it's more difficult to find a department/clothing store where the shopper can actually see the products. The store is clean, organized, and staff will help you find things. They have clothing for everyone: kids, men, women, petites, plus sizes, etc. Quality is good. Clearance racks are great bargains.

McCaulou's is a throwback!! It's like they got stuck in 1977-1982 and found a niche that somehow resonates.

If they didn't have a corner on the market for Boy Scout's apparel and decent downtown store locations, I think they'd have gone the way of gas station attendants who pump gas and wipe your windows a long time ago.

Good spot to find kids shoes, pants and housewarming gifts but they're so far behind the curve it's hard to recommend a shopping trip start or end here.

I was shopping and removed my mask for 2 seconds to leave a voicemail. The moment I did, an employee told me I need to wear a mask inside- which is obvious . I told her it was literally for a split second (not a soul was near me in that always empty store)
But she took a rude tone and told me I should go outside.
Then the other employees jumped in and told me how wrong I am. It was really unpleasant and unnecessary-
I won't be going back
They had no kindness or politeness - just Rude.

I have no idea why Sandy is still working there. I should have ran out when she came charging for me. She is so aggressive and made me once again, regret walking in there. I guess I'll have to drive to Lafayette for my McCaulou's shopping.

It's a pet peeve of mine when stores are not open when they are supposed to be open.
I was in a hurry to buy my mother-in-law a gift. I had literally 10 minutes to be in and out and so I stopped at this shop, which opened at 10am. I came to the door at 10:01am. The entrance was locked. A woman stood on the other side of the door and told me they were not going to open for another few minutes.
How hard is it to have your store ready for business at the posted time?

What a JOKE. I went to return a few items I got for my baby shower and it took every single old lady in the store to find a solution to an item they didn't have on stock. I ended up leaving as the lady said "oh well I guess I'll call our inventory and see if someone can help there but I doubt it because they're about to close". On top of that, nobody said hello or greeted me the entire 40 min I was walking around in the store while the lady called every other store. It's like the 1900's in there.

I always leave McCaulou's feeling satisfied with my purchase and extremely happy with the friendliness of the staff. They carry a great selection of clothing (I especially like their men's pajama section) and everything is usually decently priced.
