I found this studio when I was looking into getting my first cupping massage a few months ago. It is a cute old house, which is not as fancy as most people expect for a massage/spa experience, but I find it very relaxing and casual.
The cupping massage is amazing. I recommend only doing it on your back (as I did try on my legs and it was pretty painful). But I do recommend the cupping massages.
Tony is incredible. I look forward to my next appointment!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 27, 2019Updated review
I've been to Massage works before but at a different location. I decided to book an appointment for me and my husband. I needed a prenatal massage and my husband just wanted a deep tissue massage.
I'm glad they had a parking lot and overall it was easy to find. I had Jordan and my husband has Jessica. We came on time and quickly got ready. Jordan wanted to make sure I was comfortable which I appreciated. This was the first time I've ever had a prenatal massage and it won't be my last. I had lower back pain and my feet hurt so those were my main concerns. Overall, the massage was good and relaxing and I didn't want it to end! My husband liked his massage as well. He was having neck pain from going to the gym and Jessica worked out all his knots.
I can't wait to come back!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Oct 24, 2016Previous reviewLove this place! I first heard of this place when I attended the big yelp event in August! I had a 5 min massage there and loved it!
I called to make an appointment a while back without any issues. They were very accommodating. I ended up being scheduled with Christine who is also the owner. She has been in this industry for over 17 years! Impressive! I made my way and got lost for a bit and called Christine. She helped me find my way. The office is very beautiful and soothing. It didn't have the doctor unlike some of the ones I've been to. I scheduled a 90 min massage. That's the first for me, I usually do just 60 mins so I was really looking forward to it.
After, going over everything, she walked me in the room. The room was relaxing, had the perfect amount of lighting and the music was soothing! One thing I love right away was that Christine asked me if she can turn on the table warmer. Yes!! I've never had that before. We talked for a bit but I started to get really relaxed. I felt bones pop and I like my massages firm and that's exactly what she did. I was drifting asleep on and off and I'm sure I was snoring and drooling. Oops! The massage was amazing! And I loved when she used the hot towels! The 90 mins didn't go by quickly which was awesome. She woke me up and told me not to get up too quickly and she had a water bottle and a towel waiting for me while I got dressed. When I got up, my head felt so heavy! I was so relaxed I felt a little tipsy. I'm gonna plan to go back after the holidays as well as buying my husband one.
People, seriously check her out. She listens to what you are looking for, the office is beautiful and it has a parking lot! Plus, she's a local business owner! I'm all about supporting local businesses! Can't wait to go back.
Thanks, Christine!! - Nov 11, 2018
First time at Massage Works of Charlotte for both myself and my husband and we were extremely happy with our experiences. We both saw Tony. I saw him for a super deep tissue/sports massage with heavy pressure to work out major issues. My husband wanted a medium pressure relaxing massage with a little bit of working out a few kinks. Seeing the exact same massage therapist, with completely different goals, we were both very happy customers. I feel like I finally have my body back! I will definitely be back to see Tony again. Hopefully soon.
The overall ambiance of the facility is quite warm and inviting. A million steps above the lack of personality big chain locations. And the prices are better too! The old converted Plaza Midwood home is the perfect fit for the neighborhood. The front space is warm and inviting, and the parking in the back makes life even easier by not having to stress for a place to park in this bustling area of town.
Even if it wasn't a mere 0.9 miles from our home, I'd still easily be able to say that we'll be back for massages again. But the close proximity to our home makes it even better!
I'm really looking forward to getting on their email list too, so I can take advantage of their upcoming holiday specials. :)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 13, 2018
In dire need of relaxation, I had the pleasure of a 2 hour Swedish with Jessica.
Walking in, it's peaceful and spa music is playing. The staff was very welcoming and there were complimentary drinks available before my session.
Once I completed my paperwork, I was led to the room where my massage was going to take place. Huge room, very relaxing, warm table and spa music.
Jessica was WONDERFUL!! So wonderful, I booked a massage for my husband the next day :).
Jessica paid great attention to my tense areas, working out the knots and tension while providing great comfort. I understand 2 hours may seem like a long time to most ppl, it was absolutely what I needed! Jessica also provided aroma therapy, during my session.
The only thing that I would have changed, was the lighting in the room. A dimmer light would've added to the ambiance and experience. It was more of a white light.
Overall, I will be back! Thank you for a wonderful session Jessica!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for the kind words Shoni! We actually agree with you about the light in that room and changed it out today. I hope we see you again soon!

I've had a mix of good and bad experiences with massages. This place was by far one of the best!
I scheduled an appointment was Jessica. The amount of pressure was perfect for me - medium/firm. I had a lot of tension in my shoulders and neck that she was able to focus on and get the knots out.
The table that you lay on is heated! That was a nice surprise. The music was soothing and the scents in the room were calming. I liked at the beginning of the massage she had me breathe in some calming scents to relax.
Instead of a cup of water at the end, they give out a water bottle. Perfect for rehydrating after a massage.
At the time of my appointment, they were offering a deal: buy one, get one half off. I took advantage of that and will be back!
PS: if you hate trying to find parking in Charlotte, this place has ample parking. I went at 7 pm at night so not sure what it's like during the day but there was a ton when I went.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Decided to book a massage several weeks ago as a treat to myself . I went with Massage Works as they have a simple online service that makes booking easy , lots of positive reviews and they had next day openings (normal
place I go was booked) . When I arrived the place gave me an old house feel , and could really use some sprucing up. It just seemed really dingy. I got a customized massage and requested in the notes I wanted a Hot Stone Massage specifically. I discussed with the massage therapist when I arrived that I wanted a Hot Stone massage , she said she didn't see that in the notes but no worries she would get some stones and get them heated ( yay ). She asked if I had any problem areas , and I advised to put some focus on my lower back . The weird thing is, she never put any focus on my lower back , only massaged my neck, shoulders, upper back , never touched my legs , or arms or anything . I keep thinking , ok she's about to move to a different area then ok no she's not . When I started to ask her to redirect , the time was done ( 60 mins goes by fast !) I didn't feel too relaxed after I left and was confused like , why did I even take off all my garments and get under the sheet if she's just messing with my neck/upper back . I usually go to Urbana and it's always a full body hot stone massage . Overall I didn't like the ambiance nor the massage . Willing to try the other location and see if it's any different .Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jennifer P.Dallas, TX27191168Aug 2, 2016
Massage Works works! This five-star rating comes from the massage only--literally the best massage of my life. EVER.
Massage Works is truly "no-frills." The business is located in a pretty red brick business park with sufficient parking, a real plus in Uptown Charlotte. Upon entering the lights were dimmed and the massage therapists were seated behind a desk that looked like it might be better suited in a business office, but who even cares? These women had MAGIC HANDS.
My biggest complaint about massage places, and female masseuses is the lack of firm pressure. (I know, my sexism disgusts me, but at least I'm aware of it!). I like a massage that works out all my knots and kinks...where I want to scream at the top of my lungs, "COME ON BABY MAKE IT HURT SO GOOD!" And I never can seem to find that elusive balance of pleasure and pain. But now I have.
My boyfriend and I did a couple's massage...we called the day-of to see if we could be squeezed in and were graciously accommodated. At the end, we both slowly peeled ourselves off the table, looked in each other's eyes, and said in unison, "That was the best massage of my life. JINX."
The massage was affordable, and Massage Works offers a special where you can purchase four massages and get a fifth free, and they don't care who uses the massages! So couples like us can purchase one package to pay for our next few sessions. Which we scheduled immediately. Because is was really THAT amazing.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Andrea M.Spring, TX2677Apr 25, 2017
Amazing! I'd rate as one of top 3 massages I've ever had! Beautiful receiving room and massage suites.
I highly recommend Tony- 12 years of experience and very in tune with what my body needed!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elisabeth B.Livermore, CA199595150Feb 6, 2017
I am stressed. I work out a lot. I travel a lot for work. I had some stuff going on.
Alicia made all that stuff melt away. She used a combination of hot stones, warm towels and a lot of patience to stitch me back together again. This isn't a traditional Swedish massage - but I'm sure you could get that here too. The space has plenty of parking, is easy to find and was private and comfortable.
I can't wait to come back and make this part of my maintenance routine.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Brenda W.Charlotte, NC347May 11, 2019
I treated myself to an early Mother's Day gift and was very happy with Massage Works. I went to a "boutique" massage place last month and was pretty disappointed with the whole experience. I've also been to the "big box" massage shops and I was looking for something a little better. This Massage Works is in an adorable little house in Plaza Midwood and the first thing you see is a very welcoming sign. When I was in the room in the front of the house I was a little worried about the traffic noise but with the music you don't even notice the cars. Now, my therapist Tori. She was amazing. Just the right combination of firmly working out the painful knots and artfully relaxing every muscle. We even worked in some hot stones to really relax me. When I got home I was exhausted and promptly fell asleep for two and a half hours. Total relaxation and bliss.
