I'm a fan of Magleby's. I used to go to the location at the Village Green. I followed them when the moved to the Riverwoods, and we'd attend at every occasion. Tonight we had some guests from out-of-town, and considered where to take them that they couldn't get at home. We considered Cafe Rio, In-n-out, and Iggy's, but when Magleby's came up it was decided. We'd not been to the new location yet, and wanted to.
We got there, and there weren't many people seated. We waited a long time for the server to bring us drinks, and longer for our food. The breadsticks that I used to love were mediocre (though the 1.5 year old liked them, but he dunks cheetos in water and likes it). My prime rib was kind of tough, and had no real flavor. My guests got the teriyaki steak special, and it wasn't too special.
Let me tell you how turned off we were: we didn't even order dessert. Usually that is really what Magleby's is about, but we just wanted to get out.
I had to take the young one on a short walk through there so he could stretch his wee legs, and in doing I passed the kitchen. It seemed the were having trouble. There were shouts of a table that had been waiting 35 minutes for their food, and it was looking like 10-15 more. The manager tried to smile around a clenched jaw, but like everyone else there, he had the sense not to ask us how we liked our meal.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Caren N.Provo, UT112179Feb 20, 2011
The service was phenomenal! They couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating, but the food...
We chose the buffet as there were not many choices on the regular menu and the prices were high.
There weren't many choices on the buffet either. The fillet medallions were kind of tough and didn't have much flavor. The crab legs were watery and really fishy tasting. the salad was already dressed with Caesar dressing and was limp and the dessert menu was small.
we have eaten at Magleby's Fresh and was very pleased, this was like a poor relation!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mike B.Chicago, IL3744Apr 2, 2012
Wow, I'm really surprised by the poor reviews here because I've always had great experiences at Magleby's. This is definitely a favorite for me and my wife. The service has always been perfectly attentive, but never overbearing. They don't have a lot of items on the menu, but what they do have, they do well. I've tried various things on the menu, but recently I've stuck with the blackened chicken pasta, which is to die for in my opinion. My wife has tried various things, but I think her favorite is the fish tacos (not on the menu) with the pineapple salsa. We usually don't get dessert when we eat out, but whenever we come here we always finish with the chocolate cake. I love the raspberry topping that comes with it.
Personally, I would recommend coming here for dinner. I've tried the lunch buffet, and while I enjoyed it, I do think it was a bit overpriced.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dan G.Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA0541Jan 18, 2012Updated review
Terrible service, mediocre egg dishes. Poached eggs served near raw. omlette over cooked.
Seemed understaffed.
Kids seemed to like the French toast except one didn't like the odd syrup.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 14, 2012Previous reviewTerrible service, mediocre egg dishes. Poached eggs served were raw. Omelet over cooked.
The manager and server contradicted each other. Manager said we could not eat at the (pathetic) breakfast buffet. Server said we could.
