What a horrible experience. Now that I'm a civilian working for the US Army in Germany, I thought I would open up an account at the Landstuhl branch. This way I wouldn't have to send any Dollar checks to California, and I can get both dollars and euros out of the ATM. Also they have a German routing number to easily transfer funds to our German bank. Sounds fantastic, no?
NOT!
They will not add my husband Jack to the account. The DOD so far has no way to get him a base access card. You need that for everything here. Even if you want to buy a cup of coffee. The system will not accept spouses with the same gender. So, no worries. I'll just open the acct in my name.
When I tried to deposit a refund check from storage which was made out to Jack (we share a last name) and which he endorsed they made this big fuss. Who is he? My husband. Is it a joint account? No, you guys refuse to put him on. Let me get the supervisor. No we don't accept "third party" checks.
Next visit: I had thre checks from Bank of America which were made out to both of us. We both signed/endorsed the checks. I wasn't cashing them but rather depositing them. Again no go. Didn't you have this problem last time? No that was a third party check. Again supervisor. Oh, no we cant take those since we can't verify his signature.
This all was done fairly loudly. All the customers were staring at me. The supervisor who had a German accent informed me that I should open an account at a German bank. As I was leaving I told her in German, I have a German account, thank you!
The whole thing made me feel like shit. Treated like a second class citizen. I can understand certain government rules. But a commercial entity such as a bank should have just accepted my money. And I've been a loyal B of A customer since 1987! But this Community Bank just has no respect for its customers.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Henry B.San Antonio, TX21710Oct 26, 2014
I respect disagree with the posters assertion that Bofa, though I only have the credit cards not banking services. Is on the HUMAN RIGHTS campaign top equality index. Further while they do have bias I would have reported such violation to the banks supervising federal agency. The CFPB which has regulatory power over this. This has not been my experience and my husband who is obviously of the same gender is a joint card holder and never been treated with disrespect . Though this I believe is s conduit of individual experienced I can only proffer what I have experienced. Chase on the the other hand..
