    About the Business

Combined with daily and weekly Masses and the celebration of the sacraments, the various ministries of St. Ignatius Loyola work together to nourish the spiritual development of our parishioners, as well as to reach out to the larger community within New York City. Operating within the framework of Ignatian spirituality and the Jesuit tradition, we seek to answer the Lord's call in our shared ministry as a true Community of Disciples, gathered in prayer and worship, sharing the Universal Church's mission of evangelization and service.

A historic landmark. Mainly known for the famous funerals that were held here. Jacqueline Onassis and Lena Horn are the two that come to mind.
I've been attending almost daily. The weekday mass is great for working folk. It's a half hour. The church is not very far from home. A mile round trip walk.
Every Priest I've spoken with is friendly and welcoming. The sermons are ones that everyday people can relate to.
I find the parishioners to be friendly.
One of my favorite activities is the music. At times they have free events. Others there is a charge. I love the selections they perform.
I doubt you need to be Catholic to attend. Who would know? Check in some time. You may find me sitting in the back row! Or if it's noisy back there I move all the way up front.....And sometimes in the middle! I like different perspectives. But most of ALL I love the PEACE and QUIET!
      Peace to all.....

Even though the locals have all moved over to St Jean Baptiste on Lexington, I still like to come here sometimes for the beautiful interior and atmosphere! Very pretty.

Really beautiful church upper east side.

      Gorgeous stained glass and architecture.

I've been here a few times, twice on Palm Sundays and the music is also wonderful.

A big bonus is their late Sunday Mass at 730 pm. Perfect!

(Though negative for eliminating that service Easter Sunday, when masses should be added not eliminated to accommodate what my mom
Would have called the C & E's (Christmas and Easters) ha

(God please give me credit for trying/ having every intention of going Easter Sunday- not my fault doors were closed -- and hope I also get credit for attending Holy Thursday.)

      :D

      Highly recommend; a beautiful church.

If it's good enough to bury Jackie O and Oscar De La Renta, it's good enough for me! Morbid humor aside, this is one of the most beautiful churches in NYC. Truly a masterpiece and a lovely setting for quiet reflection. The priests and staff are exceptionally gracious and really embody the spirit of the Jesuits with their humility, patience, and overall "realness". Whether you're a believer or not, the architecture alone is enough to inspire just about anyone.

What a nice Church in its art and beauty, good people, social and welcoming! I celebrated Mass there last weekend 15th and 16th. I just liked the Gregorian chants and the singing Church.

      God bless this wonderful church.

Architecturally it's a gem of Italian Renaissance architecture - full of ornate detail. That the powers-that-be even dared to mention altering the sanctuary 'in the spirit of Vatican II' reveals much of their ignorance. Frankly, it's fine just the way it is - fine meaning many things.

A wonderful and entirely appropriate addition, however, is the massive 1993 Mander tracker-action pipe organ installed in the loft. I've heard this organ in concert, and it's perfect for the space.

If they offered a Sunday High Mass here, the place would receive five stars. However, that seems a while away yet. Notify me when that's changed.

As a destination for Catholics, definitely 5-star.

As a destination for architecture buffs, ditto.

As a destination for photography buffs (just be respectful of worshippers and please do not do any photography during regular masses), a triple ditto.

Knew we weren't gonna get into St. Patrick's for the Christmas Eve midnight mass, as we didn't request tix back in the summer...but all was well, as we found ourselves happily at St. Ignatius Loyola instead on our Christmas visit to NYC. Fine with an authentic, prayerful Christmas Eve experience, versus tourists running amok. Not a Catholic, myself, but have always appreciated the Jesuit stances on social justice and the like.

Choir geek, here, and was thrilled with the music selection. Top shelf rendition of Britten's Ceremony of Carols, and Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium, too. The pipe organ is amazing. Breathtaking architecture, a very warm and welcome atmosphere, and afterward, a gorgeous, peaceful walk back home.

I can't pretend to be the holy one I once was, but I echo everyone's comments; this is a beautiful place for solace and a dose of beautiful, traditional, reverent Catholic services with a strong emphasis on music.

Kind of cracks me up that churches are on yelp though. What am I supposed to say, the host is too chewy??

Please don't strike me with lightening..I was just trying to make a funny.
