One line review: Wow!
We've been twice in about two weeks. We ordered:
- the Chimec chicken burger (breast meat) the first time. The white meat version was a little dry but was seasoned well and HUGE. Came with a better than average bun, and their spicy mayo (which we got on the side) appears to have habaneros in it -- excellent. At $12, this felt like an excellent value.
- the spicy Chimec burger (thigh meat) the next time. The thigh meat version was, as expected, juicier and moister. It, too, was well-seasoned and HUGE. Two of us shared one sandwich. This time, we got the spicy mayo on the sandwich, and it was fantastic.
Our first visit was on a Friday night, and they were so busy that it took a while to get the food (20+ minutes). We tried to call ahead to order, but unsuccessfully. The second visit was on a Wednesday around lunch time, which was only 10 minute wait, and we succeeded in calling it in. A much smoother process. The service was cordial and competent.
Parking is VERY expensive at the meters on the street -- $6/hour in the evening. But around the corner, we found pay parking for $1/hour. Much better.
Bottom line: This is now our favorite spicy chicken sandwich in the city. We'll be back.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 9166529Apr 15, 2021Updated review
We just went again for takeout last night and enjoyed our bounty at English Bay.
Yup, happy to report that the chicken was still crispy, not greasy, and tasted great. And yup, the boxes still had more chicken than we ordered in it, and my hubby was thrilled.
Minor quibble about the chicken tenders being a bit on the dry side, but the wings and chicken pieces were great.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 4, 2020Previous reviewAny place that has the cojones to open a new restaurant during a pandemic must have some game - and these guys sure do!
Holy crap, we just had some excellent, crispy fried chicken! We ordered the wings and the legs & thighs combo for pickup - we got way more than we ordered, so thank you for the generosity!
The chicken was perfectly cooked, and even after a 6+ minute walk home, the chicken all stayed crisp, not a soggy one in the whole batch!
I am also gobsmacked at how UNgreasy it was! I've never had fried chicken that had less grease. I'm not sure what their trick is, but kudos to the kitchen.
We kept it to the "original" as my hubby is spice-intolerant. I can imagine that their Korean sweet & spicy would be good. Perhaps the next time I will ask for a half & half mix.
The food was ready about 20 minutes after I ordered, and my hubby said the people seemed friendly when he picked it up.
Give it a try, I'm pretty sure you will be impressed! - Jul 9, 2020

3.5 rounded up.
Not sure what happened but they were incredibly slow. This is about the only criticism I have. I was the only one in with one other customer who did a phone in order and he came to pick up.
Couldn't they fry two orders at once? I mean, it's not like there was a lack of deep fryers for two customers. Either way, they did my order in sequence with the dude before me, but I can't stop thinking why they would do this to wreck efficiency for the customer. There were three on staff that day, so I wonder.
It's a KFC joint. Korean Fried Chicken. Crispy, nice batter, slightly under-seasoned, but not a deal breaker. I didn't get any sauces with it. I only wanted straight up chicken. They did give an extra piece with my order. Seems to be a theme here. Worth a second trip if I'm in the area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ben R.Vancouver, Canada2421Apr 22, 2023Updated review
These guys make good chicken and go the extra mile to please their customers -- throwing in an extra piece or two, free cookies -- they care about their customers. The chicken is good. I've had better, but in a City over run with fried chicken places, these guys stand out. They deserve lots of business and great reviews.
Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 28, 2020Previous reviewThis place deservelots of customers. Nothing fancy, just good ol' tasty "guilty pleasure" fried chicken and sides. There are more "up scale" fried chicken places nearby, but ChiMec hits the spot for me, and I love how they always put extra treats in with your order, for free. I prefer their seasoning and crust to The Roost and Juke, but I do appreciate that those other places advertise that they only use steroid free "healthier" chicken. Once in a while it's good to be say "f*#c, it, let's get a bucket," and this is the place to do it.
UPDATE: They always give a free piece with my order. Today they did not. I ordered 5 pieces and that's what I got. It made me sad :(Aug 8, 2020Previous reviewThis place deserves lots of customers. Ordered from here via DoorDash after craving some chicken burgers. We also ordered some onion rings and fries, along with tenders and their sweet and spicy fried chicken.
The chicken burger was HUGE. The large fried chicken breast was bigger than the bun. There was some creamy coleslaw and some pickles in the sandwich as well. I ordered the hot option and it wasn't too spicy but had a kick to it. I would've preferred they used a smaller piece of chicken (or a cut that has more fat like the thigh) because it lost some flavour just being a thick cut of chicken breast. I also like my sandwich to have more of a tangy flavour (the pickles kinda added to that but the coleslaw was wayyyy too creamy)
The sweet spicy KFC was pretty good. It tasted more like sweet and sour chicken instead of spicy. I enjoyed it more when it was cold than hot.
We originally ordered 3pc tenders but they gave us like 10?? It said 3pc on the box too. Not complaining lol it was our lunch the next day.
Onion rings came crispy which is a plus! The fries came a little over salted.
This place was pretty good, but I prefer other chicken burgers than this one.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Zhen H.Vancouver, Canada03824Aug 5, 2021
I got the thigh burger and the three piece thigh and leg from door dash.
The thigh burger really is indeed ginormous. The bread was like a thin napkin stuck to the chicken, which is good news if you actually only wanted the chicken.
But I do take fried chicken quite seriously. So here's the thing: the chicken is not brined that well and the batter is kind of tasteless.
The top fried chicken in town remains DL Chicken on the drive, followed by Churches spicy dark meat, followed by Juke.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nidhi P.Richmond, Canada123778May 3, 2020
Looking for the crispiest yet delicious fried chicken? Say no more because I found you the perfect spot. ChiMec fried chicken located on Denman street. I got 5 pieces for $15.00, which is pretty reasonable and I also got an extra piece which made my night, so thanks to the peeps working tonight.
Good food and friendly staff! Must try if you're in the area or even for a takeout.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - M P.Surrey, Canada1615Jun 20, 2020
If you haven't tried the chicken here, you MUST!!!
Second time ordering from ChiMec and it didn't disappoint!!! Everything was SO delicious and SO juicy!!
My son had the chicken burger again and he absolutely loves it.
My other son loves the chicken strips, very meaty, so crispy and juicy.
The chicken leg and thighs were amazing too, not greasy at all!! Very crispy and tasty!!
Anytime we get a chance to go downtown, there will ALWAYS be a stop at ChiMec.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Farizan R.New Westminster, Canada643734Jan 24, 2021
It is good as they say. Small space, which provides a more hidden gem feeling. The chicken is very juicy, the gravy is great and the customer service is very satisfactory. For $12.00, you can have one of the best fried chicken sandwich in town.

One of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had! The portions are huge. The thigh burger with spicy mayo is my go to order.
