My dad has been a resident at Bayview Point Loma for 2 years. When we made the difficult decision to find care for my dad, he was wheelchair bound and we thought he had weeks to live. Within a short time, Maria and her wonderful staff, amazingly, got my dad walking with a walker. With Bayview's care and attention, my dad just celebrated his 100th birthday in good health!
Maria is always responsive to my emails, texts, and calls. She keeps me apprised of any changes in my dad's health and has been so helpful in guiding us to support services when an issue arises requiring attention. My dad has had great attention from the support services of Dr. Moon, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. These services have helped to improve his condition.
Before Covid, we enjoyed many visits with our dad. Maria would make sure the lobby area was ready for us to have a family sit down meal with him. For his 100th birthday, Maria had purchased balloons and decorated for this event. She always goes above and beyond to accommodate us and my dad. Maria will even pick up a shake for my dad. She knows how he loves them!
Fortunately, my dad has a room that opens to the outside and we are able to visit him from a safe distance. But for others, there is a lovely outdoor patio for in-person safe visits. We know we are welcome to see our dad anytime.
My family has peace of mind knowing our dad is receiving excellent care at Bayview due to the efforts of the management, Maria, and her caring staff.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - James C.Parchment, MI262299Sep 18, 2017
Wonderful place. I love stoping by here with my Miniature Schnauzer Leo. He loves to see everyone and hang out. As someone on the outside I will say everyone seems happy here and well taken care of.

In case you read no further, I want you to know how grateful we are to the wonderful staff at BayView Senior Assisted Living in Point Loma. This little gem on the Point was the perfect place for our father who moved there after a stay in a much larger facility that did not meet his needs. He and we, his daughters, quickly fell in love with the caring and hard-working staff. The home was always clean and well-managed and we never once felt our father was unloved or neglected. He even loved the food. As a night owl, he often woke in the middle of the night and the late shift staff made him a special meal or cup of cocoa before sending him back to bed. This place provided five-star-service all the way. Our only regret was that we did not move him there sooner.

We visited this facility for my mother in law. I was shocked at the poor conditions and poor sad people staying there calling for help from their room and little help. The rooms are like jail cells and not clean. I can't get the images of the helpless residences. Small and cramped. The cost of a small room is over $6,000 month. And shared small dorm room over $4,200. I can't believe anyone that loves their family member would stick them in such a poor appointed cramped old place.

Hello Kelli,
I’m sorry your visit to BayView Senior Assisted Living resulted in a poor review of our community. We serve folks with all forms of dementia, resulting in typically higher levels of care being offered, with residents relying on us for many or all activities of daily living. Some residents choose to stay in their rooms, while others congregate together in common areas. Regardless we are staffed with at least 3 caregivers throughout the day, oftentimes 4, which is a ratio of 1:5 or better. We regularly check all residents (never more than 2 hours in between) and have many satisfied residents and family members. We pride ourselves on the community we have with the families whose loved ones reside at BayView. We clean the rooms everyday, with scheduled professional carpet cleaning every 3 months, and a professional cleaning service for deeper cleans once per week. Our residents can be helpless themselves due to debilitating disease like Alzheimer’s, but their care is our main concern. I’m discouraged you were not able to experience the reality of how we care for our residents, appreciate the extensive physical renovations we have made over the last three years, and see the caring families we partner with in providing excellent memory care services in a cozy homelike environment. I invite you to schedule another tour with me, so I can provide a different perspective on what memory care is, and what the services entail. Please feel free to contact me directly, and best of luck to you and your family in searching for the right place for your mother in law!

I don't know that I can put in to words what the care and facilities at Bay View Assisted Living did for my father and our family but I'd like to try. They were so kind and accommodating during what was a very heart wrenching and stressful time in our lives. I had never planned to navigate the assisted living process but the universe had other plans. If you find yourself in a position needing a safe, trustworthy, and clean facility packed with kind and attentive caregivers, call Maria at Bay View Assisted Living - our experience was above what I imagined and expected.

I placed my father in BayView several months ago. We have been really happy with the staff and the home. The home is bright and clean. They have musicians that come in and play the piano and sing with them. The staff is really sweet and caring. I would definitely recommend BayView for your loved one that is in need of 24 hour care.

I just want to say how grateful I am to BayView, they provided my dad with the best care during his transition. It is so hard to put your parent in a "home" and I really felt like BayView was more like a vacation home or condo. My Dad loved it, every time I went to visit the staff knew my name, they new what he liked and disliked (he could be kind of pain with his particularities), they were patient and kind, the place always smelled nice and was well decorated. It was/is evident they genuinely care. We had an issue with hospice and the owner, Jeff, helped out immensely. We could not have had an easier transition and I know my Dad had the best care in his final years of life.

This assisted living center is wonderful and my grandmother loves it here. The view is beautiful, the residence is kept immaculate, and the care givers are all incredible with the seniors. The new management has turned Bayview into a magnificent place for my loved one and I'm sure it would be great for yours. Would recommend to anyone!

Our mother stayed here for about a year and a half. She ended up dying here in hospice care. There was never any fresh fruit or food visible in the kitchen and none of the patients had water or drinks except at mealtime. There are no tables to put drinks on in the TV room where the patients are most of the time. Our mother was always pale from no exposure to sunshine and she was often thirsty when we visited. Her skin was always severely dry and her feet and toenails were not attended to until we complained. Elderly patients should not have to endure pain or infection in their feet or toenails or skin because of neglect. Our Mom was never actually fitted for a wheelchair and she died holding a dirty rag in her hand because Bayview never made sure she was fitted for a soft type of "brace" or glove - as she began to hold her hand in a claw like fashion. Fresh flowers donated from local stores like Trader Joes were picked over by the staff and put into or on top of staff cars and the rest were left to die outside until tossed in the trash. Weren't these meant for the old folks? We never saw any of those in the public rooms or the patient's private rooms for them to enjoy.
Because our mother had Alzheimer's- she couldn't remember anything to tell us about it but we noticed. The meals that we saw being prepared were mostly out of a can. The director - Shay Wicline had her mother there as "the cook" - a clear case of nepotism . And we never saw the supposed "cleaning crew".When we asked how often they came - the answer was - oh they're here all the time.
We as a family truly regret that we put our Mother here. We are writing this because
we are heartbroken that we didn't get this right. Hopefully this review will help others.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hello Mona,
My name is Jeffrey and I'm the new Administrator at BayView Senior Assisted Living as of July 15, 2015. I wanted to thank you for your review, and apologize for the extremely unfortunate service failure you and your loved one received here in the past.
I know the previous owner responded to this review as well, offering her apologies and explaining she had employed someone here previously that did not operate the home to the level of her expectations, resulting in this situation for you and your family. Since that time significant changes were made under her direct management, and now mine. I wanted to extend the invitation for you to come by and experience the new BayView, where we treat everyone like our own family, with loving care and support.
Best Regards,
Jeffrey S. - Brian W.San Diego, CA26129Nov 11, 2015
BayView has been home to a past patient of mine for some time now and every time I visit I notice how much the staff cares for him, and how much he cares for them. I've traveled to several care facilities throughout San Diego working as a home health physical therapist, and Bay View definitely stands out as a place where the staff and management really care for the patients. Knowing how bad and depressing other care facilities can be, it's nice to finally see my patients able to go to a home that feeds, entertains, and allows it's members to live out their lives instead of playing a waiting game of depressed routine day to day. The new management seems to have taken a ton of pride in the building and facility, but is in the industry for the right reason, providing exceptional care to seniors. It has been great to see the changes around there, and I so appreciate the care they provide in such an important time in my patient's life. Keep up the good work BayView Senior!
